| I saw a cute Maxi dress on sale, and was considering getting it for next summer. I have never owned one and wanted to know from the Fashion forward bunch here if it is too risky to get for next summer if they would be out of style. Thanks! |
| I think they will still be in style. |
| I bought one 4 years ago thinking it would be a one season trend and I am still wearing it. |
| Great, thanks! now, the other question is do you have them hemmed so they don't skim the floor or just let it be super long? I am only 5'4. |
| Don't have it hemmed |
| Hem it so it at least doesn't touch the floor! That's gross. I am 5'2" and I've hemmed them so that I can wear flats. |
| Maxi dresses are an atrocity regardless. |
| You're not really supposed to wear flats with maxi dresses. Sandals, wedges, heels, and really even certain boot styles are the best type of shoe to wear. Definitely lean towards shoes with a heel though. The cut of the maxi dress tends to make legs look shorter and thicker. Even if you're skinny, no one likes to have short-looking legs. A heel should help. |
| Also--is there an unspoken timeframe that you can wear a maxi dress--like let's say it is Sept and very hot out, can you do it? Or is it like white jeans-don't wear after labor day? |
This doesn't make any sense to me. Your legs don't even show when you're wearing a maxi. A lot of them are empire or have a high waist so that your legs theoretically would look longer. Although honestly most women I see wearing them don't even have their shoes showing because they're practically dragging on the ground, so I can't really recall noting what kinds of shoes are worn with them the most, and I'm far too lazy to google for pictures. |
| any reviews of the tbags los angeles brand? |
Well I wore one today and I usually wear them through the fall (but thicker ones, not my summer ones). I'm from California though and maxis aren't as weird as they seem to be to everyone here. |

hem the dress! Of course I'm 6ft and have never had to do that. But you don't want to trip! Length is very important, I'm paranoid about stuff being short - but too long is just as bad.
I have maxi dresses/skirts that I wear with heels and others that I wear with flats, some for summer and some fall/spring. It depends on the dress - fabric/color. |

I think maxis will still be around. I'd get it hemmed to make sure you're not stepping on the hem.
I wear flats with maxis. |
Sez who? The fashion police? I have been wearing maxis (dresses & skirts; many vintage ones) continuously for the past 20 years. I wear them in summer and winter. I think dresses are better in summer and a skirt or else a dress with a sweater on top in winter. I rarely wear heels. I wear maxis with sandals or flats or boots. |
