Really? Where are you going to send the kids in Centreville? You are going to end up busing kids cross county. The schools are packed west of Centreville (Westfield), North of Centreville (Chantilly), east of Centreville (Fairfax) and south of Centreville (Robinson). You will get a domino effect that will end up with ridiculous boundaries. |
+1. The expansion at Centreville is necessary. There is no mythical Western High School (it does not exist, and apparently never will). |
You really think taxpayers should foot the bill to expand Centreville to 3000 seats? 2500 ought to be enough. They are projecting Centreville to lose students and have under 2100 students by 2029, and that projection was made before Trump/DOGE started laying off so many feds. |
Actually, if FCPS had simply paid attention to where the growth was projected to happen, and adjusted their renovation queue accordingly, we probably would have spent less on expansions and also not had to change boundaries. But they refused to change the renovation queue, and sunk money into expansions and new facilities that were completely unnecessary. |
+1000. They didn't want to take any heat from people whose school renovations might be deferred or scaled back if they updated the queue to reflect current needs. Now they are going to take far more heat from people redistricted against their will due to FCPS's incompetence. Cowardice and stupidity comes with a political price tag, too. |
If they had built the western HS ten years ago, no need to expand centreville. |
Does anyone know when a decision / new boundary map is actually expected from the district?? |
No one knows for sure. The original timeline had "Data Analysis and Draft Scenarios" set for March through early June. Early June to early October is "Post-Analysis Community Engagement" If they are still on track, it should be sometime in May. |
It will take place over the summer, when people are away and/or not paying attention. |
Anyone planning to attend the "Community Conversation" with Dr. Reid tomorrow night? |
How much did the expansion at Langley cost? |
About $70 million. |
About $80M and it was expanded to about 2370 seats, not 3000. |
And the surrounding population had same density? Same capacity needs? |
But hey, you got yours, right? |
