$16 million later they’re winless in EDP but at least they have a bad and bought a ticket to GA

Aren't they for profit now? The way VRSC is described around here, they're funded by someone with lots of financial resources. To the point where they can just burn money to try to outlast others for years while they slowly try to take over their market, much like other big money industries where investors can burn cash while their competition slowly dies before they strangle the market and then turn a profit.

Except soccer clubs are generally not money makers. Show me one that makes the kind of profits that would be needed to recoup their strangling of the market.

Agree with you. Just saying the sentiment being spread amongst pro VRSC folks and why their 'vision' will work and outlast their competition. They have lots of money to burn until they're successful.

Their vision is not a soccer club like the ones in the DMV, it’s more like a one-sport (for now) IMG. IMG prints money. Local clubs are playing checkers, they’re playing chess. They might be learning how to play along the way, but they have the resources to learn while doing. I hope they succeed. It will be bad for some of the DMV’s existing clubs (particularly those who continue to rest on their laurels rather than innovate), but it will be great for DMV soccer.

Comparing VRSC to IMG academy is kind of funny. That program is nearly 50 years in the making, some of us might not even be around to see the fruits of this if at all.

You have to start somewhere. Purchasing Evergreen (genesis of this thread) was a pretty gutsy move. They didn’t make it to be [insert your favorite DMV club].

This VRSC homer is amusing, but if you’ve seen the facility it already is taylor made for this and FCV proved that you could build an elite club in Loudoun without ever having their own facilities. Plus if the IMG vision comes into focus they could be attracting players from all over the east coast. Only other facilities like this are in FL and CA. Maybe they have cornered a market inefficiency with nothing in the NE/Mid-atlantic idk 🤷🏾‍♂️

Their facilities are nice but comparing to IMG is laughable. Maybe with another 100 million investment. Hard to compete with FL and CA on weather

No one said their current facilities are like IMG’s current facilities. I compared the concepts, recognizing that one is 50 years in the making and the other just getting started. What were IMG’s very first tennis facilities like? Maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t, but they are not trying to build just another [insert your favorite DMV soccer club].

Did you know that IMG’s girls soccer program uses kids from local clubs until they have enough full-time IMG players to field a team? Their younger teams are terrible, but their older teams are very good. Perhaps that’s a model VRSC will follow with its new academy players.

Several. More than most (all?) DMV programs.

buying a 4-field sports complex with some decent facilities does not an IMG Academy make.

IMG has 20 fields plus world-class support facilities and sports science personnel.
