Wegovy/Saxenda for weight loss?

Anonymous
My doc prescribed Saxenda for me. She started me on samples while we waited for insurance. My insurance won't cover it, so I continue with samples until I talk with her again. She said she'd try a different, comparable drug if they didn't cover it, so we'll see what happens next week at our appointment. I've lost 18 pounds in 6 weeks.

Hoping a different drug will work just as well and hoping my insurance will cover. Side effects passed and 95% of my cravings have also passed. I rarely feel hungry. I'm eating much healthier. The doc seemed to think I could stay on the drug indefinitely (risks of being overweight outweigh risks of the drug).

I’ve been on .25 for three weeks and I’m feeling very little difference and no weight loss so far. Is this normal?

At first, I felt nothing... no side effects or any impact on appetite, etc. Then suddenly, the last 2 weeks I am SO full from eating very little. I'm almost a little worried because I can't continue to eat so little long term, but I'm hoping that as I get used to the medication, it will become more reasonable.

Yes you can. You don’t need that many calories. That’s how many slim people stay slim- they don’t eat very much.

Most slim people eat like birds. Either birds, or they have super metabolisms. One of the two.

.25 of Wegovy or Ozempic is not a treatment dose -- it's a loading dose to get your body used to the drug so that the side effects don't hit you like a ton of bricks. Just stick with it and go up to .5 in week 5 like you're supposed to. Weight loss at lower levels is just a bonus.

Mounjaro has been great for me. I've been on it since mid-August and am down 23 lbs! Lots more energy and just feeling better. It has really turned off the "food noise" in my head. Amazing!

I've also lost weight on Mounjaro: about 12 pounds in 6 weeks. I'm perimenopausal and was finding it almost impossible to lose weight (stared with a BMI 27 and prediabetes). Now my frustrating pot belly is almost gone. The down side is that I've been really nauseated for much of my time on the drug. Like significantly so. I'm finishing 3 more weeks and then stopping where I am (hoping for a 20 pound total loss). I can't deal with the side effects. I actually eat fairly well when I'm not on the drug so I'm hoping I'll be able to maintain my weight.

Same for me on Wegovy. Kept increasing the dosage - was on it for 5 months. Was too sick to go to work 2 days but lost no weight. And never felt any different except the nausea.

And then I started seeing ads for a service called Calibrate on IG (algorithm, I know) that combines dr supervised weight loss program with one of these medications (if you can get it covered by insurance). Calibrate is claiming that the meds will re-set your metabolism to a lower weight point so that your body isn't fighting to stay a certain weight. They aim for 10% reduction in your weight, but it seems like these may work better than that. Just curious if anyone has any thoughts or has tried these before. TIA.

They all basically make you sick to your stomach eventually. This is no way to live. Believe me, I was on two different drugs similar and had the same reaction. It's not a magic cure. I would spend my money on a personal trainer instead.

This is just not true. I was on Wegovy for nearly 2 years and my nausea was minimal or only I ate too much (continued to eat, when I knew I had had enough to eat.).

For me it has been like magic. Down almost 50 now. Without trying! No tracking, very little exercise, just only eating when I’m hungry and stopping when I’m full. I used to never get full and now I do. Yes there’s been some nausea and even a few vomiting episodes along the way but nothing crazy, and usually when I wasn’t listening to my body and ate even though I wasn’t hungry. Much more worthwhile than a personal trainer (as someone who was obese).

It hasn't even been out two years.

Wegovy made me very sick. I had to stop taking it.

That’s one of the trolls who regularly post fake horror stories about medical treatments for weight loss. I’m convinced it’s a personal trainer who spreads fake stories about outcomes from bariatric surgery or weight management with medication, because she always follows a formula along the lines of “fake story about bad outcome from bariatric surgery/Wegovy/medical weight management, ends with ‘should have hired a personal trainer.’”

Basically, there are posters who are really angry that Wegovy even exists and works well for people. That PP is probably one of them.
