Nobody wants their kid walking on 355 either, but that's what happens for a number of kids who go to RM. MoCo doesn't provide buses for high schoolers who live within 2 miles of the school -- they need to walk, bike, carpool, or drive. |
We won't know what the walk zone is for Crown HS until the boundary study begins. |
Nobody who? Plenty of kids at SVHS and NWHS walk to school on Great Seneca Highway. Plenty of kids at QOHS walk to school on 28. Get out of your bubble and open your eyes. |
You mean they’re designated walkers but have to arrange their own transportation? |
355 may be slightly more walkable. |
They live in the walk zone, and they walk. |
No, Rockville Pike is more dangerous for pedestrians and bicyclists than Great Seneca Highway. The reality is that high schoolers, and even middle schoolers, walk to school all over the county on roads where the PP would say "nobody wants their kids walking there". |
2 miles on these big roads? Are you kidding me? Spending 40 min each way on big roads is not something high schoolers can afford |
Anyway, it will make these roads as congested as 355. Believe or not, you’ll see a lot of parents driving their kids rather than walking |
Well, feel free to show up tomorrow morning and tell the high schoolers they're doing it wrong. |
Well, then a lot of parents will be sitting in a lot of self-induced traffic. Or they could tell their kids to walk, bike, skateboard, or take public transportation, like other kids do. Their choice. |
That will impact all commuters who need to access 200/270 and these big roads in that area. That’s just the reality. |
Many of us don't get bus transportation for a variety of reasons. We all find a way to get our kids to school. We drive, carpool or figure out another plan. |
And that's not a strict rule, it's a guideline. Sometimes there are buses for areas within 2 miles. |
Just like all the other high schools in Montgomery County do, at arrival time, due to parents who choose to drive their children. That's just the reality. |
