1. I keep wondering about Camilla’s non presence. Safe to say Eugenie or someone close to isnt 100% accepting of Camilla? Yes, I know the excuse of previously scheduled visits. But I’m sure they would have been happy to have her come another day...if for a wedding! I think it’s all but said that Camilla is a sore spot for someone important to the bride.

2. I’m worried Philip or the Queen will pass soon. You know that thing where elderly family members will die soon after lots of events? As though they had something to look forward to, and now that season has passed? The baby’s arrival may be one more event, but besides that not a lot of major events on the horizon.

The Queen and Prince Phillip aren't 'regular' people. They don't live for the day their last grandchild is born or the 4th son they thought was a loser gets married to a good girl. They run the Commonwealth.

The Queen Mum (the Queen's Mother) survived her husband's death by 50 years and died at 102. The Queen and Prince Phillip are certainly not spritely at 97 and 92 but I don't fear for them in the next 3 years or so (especially the Queen) simply because they're dialing down their workloads and all they have to do is sit up in bed, drink tea, and let their physicians come tend to them.

Disagree. The princes have wives and kids, the line has lots of heirs. Even Charles is all set up with Camilla. I agree with PP, this may be enough for the queen, she may consider everything to be neatly wrapped up now.

Charles's ONLY job is to be the heir apparent. That is all he has ever been or needed to be. It is his "destiny" Of COURSE he's going to work at that.

But he is old and gross and now married to the mistress he cheated on his beloved-by-the-public wife with.

William is younger with a pretty wife and a bunch of cute little kids. Passing down to the next generation might allow for the monarchy to survive long term. I think putting one of Diana's boys on the throne would bring a lot of goodwill. And surely we'd also see a lot of Will and Harry working together for the UK.

How are you actually going to get William to work up to the level his father still does at almost 70? William's work ethic is far to lax for him to carry the monarchy. Anyway, it is moot because Charles will be king, full stop.

Wrapped up now? The Queen's line is an amazing joy in her life but it is not the REASON for her life.

You should listen to her 21st Birthday speech if you want to get some insight -

She lives by this motto: "I can make my solemn act of dedication with the whole Empire with me, I should like to make that dedication now, it is very simple: I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and to the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong, but I shall not have strength to carry out this resolution alone, unless you join in it with me, which I now invite you to do."

There is NO WAY that Charles will not elect to be the next King. He would never let it pass him, its the reason he has had such a miserable childhood and marriage to Diana.

Maybe he’s trying to not show up his father. If it’s a choice between Charles & William (with William having better optics), maybe Wills is taking himself out of the running for now. He doesn’t want his father to be miserable to not get chosen.

We know it will be Charles bc the queen labeled him as the next Lord if the realm or whatever it was at the meeting this year.

He's already been confirmed as the next Head of the Commonwealth.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/04/20/prince-charles-confirmed-successor-queen-next-head-commonwealth/

It'd be a whee bit awkward, just a touch, to have a King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland who is separate from the King over the Commonwealth.

Unless they name Harry King of the Commonwealth in which case I'm all for it.

Now THAT is the funniest thing I've ever heard. As if William cares how Charles feels or even comes close to doing even a quarter of what he does. Wow.

I’ve actually thought W&K won’t take on as much right now because there will be a trickle down of many, many appointments and visits over the next few years. If they take on too much, they’ll have to make room for the queen’s and charles’ projects, and drop dozens of others. It doesn’t look great to drop one once you’ve taken it on. And ^ this was all aligned with their desire to be involved with their young children; so I’m sure they’ll take on more after QE2 passes on.

Uh-huh. There's something called preparing for the role. If they can't do their minor jobs now, when they get to the big leagues floundering and flailing is bound to happen.

We will see.

Maybe they fundamentally disagree with the amount of work. Maybe if QE2 sees 800 patronages/year; maybe they’ve felt the work can be just as effective in the future (say in 20 years) by seeing 300 patronages per year.

Not every organization stays the same, and they’re not ready to commit as that PP at the top said, because they’ll be taking on a lot of the Queen’s work and Charles’s work, and then QE2 authorized them to step back slightly because NOW is the only time they can.

The biggest part of the role is to be wise, to not use power. And to attempt to stay reasonably popular, popular enough that the citizenry doesn't come and chop off their heads. The "work" that they do, that's all separate from the important part of the job.

The work that they do ensures their popularity and continuity for the next generation. You think the rest of Europe's monarchs weren't deposed because people liked seeing them laze about and go to parties decked in jewels?

You really should take a look at the most recent abdication of King Juan Carlos I of Spain....four years ago. He was given no choice.

Also P.S. - careful use of power has nothing to do with it. The British monarchy is a constitutional one and has been since 1701. They have no power except the power not to f*ck up.

The press on this wedding just keeps getting worse. I'm more convinced than ever that she (and AirMiles Andy) invited rich celebrities they've never even met just for kicks, names, and gifts. I bet billionaires give LAVISH gifts.
