Thin Women: How Do You Do It

So to actually look lean and in shape, not just shapelessly thin, I watch the sugar and carbs and work out 3x a week. I am not fat if I don't but it's the difference between round shoulders and nicely sculpted ones, and a jiggle in my thighs vs not.

How old are you?
I was the same way until I hit my early 40s. Now I have to be the damn Calorie Police, and have to be really disciplined about working out 5x a week, or I pack on weight.

I'm the opposite. Became naturally thin after 40. Seriously. After a lifetime of being chubby I now seem to eat whatever I want (which is not a lot I admit. I think me appetite has decreased ) and stay the same weight (20 lbs less than my college days)

I think I have a quick metabolism. I'm small-framed (petite) and thin - and I don't think meant to be a big person. But I eat really healthy and I don't drink except maybe a glass of wine every several weeks. I'm 40 with 2 kids and I work full time.

I eat throughout the day - 3 meals and 2 snacks at least. To sum up, I eat a ton of fruits and vegetables (love frozen fruit). A lot of huge salads and green smoothies.

I eat no red meat and mostly plant-based diet but I do eat some chicken and fish, do eat eggs. I love dessert but the less sugar I eat the less I crave. I like to eat a bit of a dessert after dinner. I think eating a lot of fruit helps curb sweet cravings too.

I like greek yogurt, and I drink a fair amount of skim lattes. Not a lot of cheese.

I like healthy fats - avocado, olive oil in dressing, lots of PB and nuts. Eat a fair amount of beans, like quinoa. I don't eat out a lot, except for salads at lunch.

I like to walk and putting my minutes on my phone so I can watch them add up over the week helps keep me motivated to fit in walking. I will bang out some squats, push ups, planks etc. a few times a week after a walk, but don't belong to a gym now that I have kids and work full time.

I don't count calories, but I don't eat fast food or much processed stuff, drink alcohol pretty sparingly (a glass of wine or a margarita in summer once or twice a month usually), and drink ~100 oz of water every day.

Same about the sport - it's an intense 60 minute to 90 minute affair so a great workout. 2-3 times/week.
On the off days I swim or jog for an hour - often late at night so it fits in.
The sport is crazy fun so its not like it's work. I exercise every day because it makes me feel good.

To the PPs - what intense sports do you do? Looking for some suggestions here. Thanks!

Soccer! It's an addiction - it's so fun and you get a huge social life out of it too. That is if you play women's - coed can be soul sucking as the men don't share the ball much.
There are thriving women's leagues in Maryland (Frederick, Montgomery County and Columbia), Virginia (Arlington) and DC (WASL and Federal Trusngles are two).
There's a team for everyone and the women's teams are always looking for more players.
Age groups are typically 18+, 25+, 30+, 40+ and even 50+.
If you haven't played before the best way is to fine a pickup game (they are usually once/week same time same place) or sometimes there are teams that take beginners.
If you want more info let me know - I can point you in the right direction.
Or check with your local rev dept.

I'm 30. Have two kids. I started working out this year for the exact reason you say. I was only going to get away with it for so long and I didn't want to be 40 just learning to eat better and work out. Figure I better start now and prepare for when it's not really an option

OP, I simply don't eat a lot

for me it's a struggle. I am 32, 5'2", and my weight now fluctuates between 104 and 107. At my prime I weighed 100 (iv'e been skinnier too.. but I wouldn't call it my prime bc i don't think it was healthy) .. It's hard... I have to count calories, and exercise about 4-5 times a week. If I fall off my routine I very quickly gain weight, and it takes a lot more work to get back to ideal weight. I often don't drink alcohol because of the calories. I don't think I will ever be happy with my weight.. I know it will always be a struggle to stay fit.

After having my children I found that I was hovering in the mid-130s so did a low-carb thing for a while and to my surprise lost 20 lbs. It was a pretty strict diet. I continue those habits now and my weight stays right around 115. I really don't indulge much. I have oatmeal or a smoothie for breakfast, a salad w/ protein for lunch, and a small-portion dinner. I drink some wine but no beer or mixed drinks. Snacks are usually fruit or raw nuts. If I notice a few pounds have crept on after the holidays or a vacation, I cut back. I don't feel deprived, and I really like the way I feel & look. I exercise moderately/erratically.

How old are you, and what are your pleasures in life?

I am 50, and love food, wine and sex. I will never be thin.

I'm 40, and despite the implication of your question, I have a very enjoyable life and am a fun person. My pleasures are many - - the outdoors, reading, music, good wine, entertaining friends, my solid partnership with my husband of 13 years, and our 2 great kids. I love wine and sex too! And while I do love food, I indulge in hi-calorie, hi-carb foods as a treat rather than a regular occurrence. I don't need to have pasta and dessert every night. For a holiday or other special occasion, or at a great restaurant, I'll eat more than I normally would. but on a day to day basis I exercise restraint. And I notice and like the results.

You may need to see someone. 104 is very small, even at 5'2". A healthier weight would be at least 115. Muscle is important.

104 is fine at 5'2. I am 5'1 and if I weighed 115 I would honestly look a little chubby. 5 lbs is a big difference on that small a frame.

How active is your life? Are you doing cardio and weightlifting both during an average week?

In ten years, you may or may not be willing to exercise that restraint on a daily basis.

Where on earth did you get that rom? If she is getting through activities of sailing living she has muscle. She says she exercises so she probably has a healthy amount of muscle.
