Heat…. |
How would we get to a main road? No sidewalks. |
And, plows have been by but it’s still coming and icing with the wet raid. The fire department even plowed. This is bad. |
They always extend the school year. That’s on you. |
Only those on the marked emergency routes are plowed. If your hoa hires a private plowing company thats a different story |
If we already missed 4-5 days for Thanksgiving half days and Christmas and then miss another 5-6 days for end of semester, would that trigger some punishment? |
They always don’t build in enough snow days in calendar. That’s on them! Extending a whole week of school is ridiculous? How can families plan for vacation and summer camps? |
No. MCPS will talk a big game about attendance but never actually punish anyone for it. When i lived in Jefferson County WV they sent out bench warrants to parents when kids hit like 10 absences. |
This year is a special circumstance because of Juneteenth being a mandatory day off so if they have to extend the year by more than one day it will send us into the following week. |
Correction: They never build in enough snow days. |
That’s a you did a poor job scheduling problem. |
At least before Taylor came and introduced this stupid transition day, we had 2 snow days but now we can only have 1 |
That’s not a correction. It’s a restatement. |
Do you work for MCPS? Always try to gaslight parents on DCUrbanmom? |

The make up days are:
October 17 November 3 January 26 March 20 April 15 June 18 June 22-26 I find this fascinating for a few reasons. I think Taylor picked more strategically this year. Two are in Fall and you can’t retroactively be expected to use them. January 26 is obviously a wash in this particular storm. He didn’t touch Feb 17, which was an option, nor did he touch spring break, so that is safe. I think he also got the BOE to vote something about if we are in a state of emergency at the last meeting. I think this is a game of chess. He will make March 20 and April 15 half days (and could consider making March 19 and April 14 also half days so teachers get the same professional development and grading hours). Then he will ask for a waiver for the rest under the state of emergency and multi-day snow event situation. If we get a future storm with more days off, we might be in trouble but this one may squeak by without extending the year. |
