+1 An overhaul is needed.

+2 Romanians were right and should receive the medal and Chiles should give it back.

It was so cringe. Not anywhere near a sport.

I’ve tried to breakdance, and have younger relatives who do it. The level of strength, balance and coordination which is required to do it at this level is enormous. It’s as much a sport as any other. I loved watching it.

What do you mean proof? It’s not like football where you can have the officials watch the replay. They are judging in real time.

And there is video evidence they were wrong

So? That’s not how this works. The Romanians appealed the inquiry and got the outcome they wanted anyway.[/quote
They didn't get the exact outcome they wanted since they wanted Sabrina to have a metal as well. There's video evidence she didn't step out of bounds so it is unfair they refuse to look into it.

Now The U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) is appealing the decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to strip Jordan Chiles bronze medal.

As they should!! The Romanians should appeal as well. All three should be sharing a bronze.

Just share the bronze and move on. It’s not gold.

My issue is that Romania and the US both acted within their rights to advocate for their athletes. FIG made at least two errors in their scoring. First they didn’t give Jordan credit she deserved, and then they accepted an inquiry outside the window they were allowed. It takes a lot of nerve to punish an athlete for the judges’ mistakes. There are cases to be made for any three of the athletes to receive the bronze, and the appeals will drag on. I’m in the camp that the IOC and FIG should acknowledge that THEY screwed up, and just issue medals to everyone.

+1 this is so absurd. They all want to share. Let them. These games are only held every 4 years. The judges should have done a better job.

Agreed.Thats why Romania wanted all three girls to get a bronze. Continuous mistakes were made by the judges to put them in this situation

It seems silly to penalize the gymnasts for a “late” appeal (by 4 seconds?) if the facts are that Chiles’s routine was improperly scored and the Romanian gymnast did not in fact step out of bounds. How is it fair to ignore what actually happened and elevate procedure over facts.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport did not make this decision. Their ruling was to restore Chiles' original score and leave the decision of what should be done about the medal to the IOC.

That’s why this isn’t a bigger issue. Only the athletes really care about a bronze.

It's dumb. It sounds like the core issue is them not wanting to take accountability for messing this event up. You can't can't prioritize procedure when you haven't been following the procedure in the first place. Regardless of the ending, this has completely stained the girls experience.
