| I've watched swimming, fencing, badminton, diving, and probably others I'm forgetting. |
| Many homes in Paris don’t have ac. It’s not uncommon although with climate change that does pose the question. Not sure how that would be updated when you can’t use a window unit and I think it would be cost prohibitive to retrofit all those buildings. I know you are talking about Olympic Village only but it raises the question about how some European cities are prepared to adjust to extreme heat. |
There used to be an amateur code for the Olympics. There was tension during the Cold War when many eastern block athletes were employed by the state or in the military, allowing them to be full time paid athletes. They changed the rules to allow professionals in the Olympics leading to the Dream Team basketball team and the entry of professional tennis players. It also allowed swimmers, gymnasts etc to get paid endorsements during their competitive careers. |

I wish they'd rearrange the heats so they didn't swim alone or in races of just two or three. They could give them lane 8 in a full heat. |
Meh…I enjoy the basketball games. The same argument can be made for golf, soccer etc. NBA players in the Olympics is a fairly recent development. The gap between US basketball and other countries is rapidly closing. |
| Not sure why the networks only show US athletes, when I watched it from my home country in Europe all the countries and athletes are equally represented and it is nice to learn about all of the athletes, not just US ones, it is really annoying and Im kind of not into it. |
Yep. Networks in other countries showcase athletes from all countries not just their own; US networks mainly showcase only US athletes. |
I've watched in several different countries. They're all alike in focusing on their own athletes unless you're from Tonga or similar with only three athletes. In France (when it was not being held in France), they kept showing judo. In New Zealand they kept showing too much field hockey. In Canada in winter there was way too much curling. Before peacock, in the US there was way too much beach volleyball because of the bikinis. At least we have on demand and VPNs now to watch other sports and countries |
For Primetime, yes. Or for when it’s a headline athlete like Simone Biles during the US qualifying events. Otherwise, this afternoon, across the four networks airing coverage, I’ve seen a lot of variety in athletes being represented. The US sent more than 500 athletes to the games. They’re hard to avoid. |
I'm watching cross country equestrian. They're showing every single competitor. |
I was in Ecuador in 2008 when an Ecuadorian won a medal in the 20km speed walking event. It was their second medal ever. They aired the whole thing live and then when it was over they immediately replayed it. And when I say aired it, I mean they showed the Ecuadorian athlete walking for 20km. No context, no intercuts with other athletes. Just one guy speedwalking for well over an hour. It was kind of amazing. It was all anyone was talking about. |
| I don’t really have a problem with countries primarily showcasing their athletes. |
| The Peacock coverage allows you do watch watch whatever you want, and replays whenever you want. Although there have bee a couple bugs, it has been excellent - the way we should be able to watch. |
I’m not sure why you connect baseball and basketball. Think basketball is much more popular in many countries than baseball. |
