“Cumulative numbers”? No, thanks!

What’s wrong with cumulative numbers?

Cumulative numbers can hide important changes and trends—it doesn’t tell the current story. For example, all 4 Penn admits may have happened 4 years ago. There have been zero Penn admits for 3 years. If I’m a STA student (or prospective student) interested in Penn, I would like to know this information.

You are a shit stirrer and won’t get into STA so no worries there.

You are incorrect. There were 2 STA admits last year.

Lol—I don’t want to be admitted to STA. I’m a parent and I have daughters. My oldest daughter applied and was admitted to NCS. Thankfully, she was admitted to her top choice coed private, so she declined NCS’ offer. My youngest daughter didn’t apply to NCS because, after the first admissions cycle with my oldest daughter, I wasn’t impressed with the Cathedral Schools.

I hope that you enjoy that joyless, stifling environment though. It seems like a good fit for you.

Doubtful that she was admitted to NCS. So if you are not interested in Cathedral schools then why harping on STA. Get a life.

NCS wasn’t a difficult admit. You’re acting like it’s Sidwell or GDS.

Preppy high society families are not sending their daughters to Sidwell or GDS. It is normally an all girls school and NCS is the top in that regard followed by Holton.

Oh no! My daughters are missing out on attending school with “preppy high society” girls. How will they manage to experience some of that misery, without actually attending NCS [wringing hands]. 🙄

Doubtful they were admitted. NCS did not go to waitlist they had such a high yield of acceptance. You sound miserable and bitter. Try to lighten up your mood for the holidays.

My daughters don’t attend NCS, so trust me, the mood in our home is warm and joyful this holiday season.

I bet is that why you are obsessing about STA's college admittances? Sure if you say so. Lots of joy coming out of your posts.

Hey sassy Sidwell lady - what proof do you require to ease your sassy mind ?

Report cards and tuition payments from Ivy league schools ??????

Lol! I guess the am a Sidwell booster because my daughters love the school.

However, we’re not Quaker. We’re Catholic—maybe that’s why I’m so sassy. Shrug

NCS wasn’t a difficult admit. You’re acting like it’s Sidwell or GDS.

Seriosly, it's 2023 not 2003. Sidwell and GDS only admit Ivy pedigree. Just look at this year's amazing ED results!

they are both almost twice the size of Cathedral schools so need to combine both STA and NCS to get an accurate picture. STA only has 75-80 boys in a class. NCS 80.

I see you’re good at math. Sidwell (125) is almost twice the size of NCS (80)? Is NCS’ lunch also twice as good as Sidwell’s? Tell me more fairytales.

Very few people at the Cathedral schools applied to GDS and Sidwell as well. They attract very different families. In fact most of the parties are single sex schools interact. Sidwell and GDS interact with other schools but kids do not know many if any kids at those schools but know most kids at schools like Holton, Landon, Prep, Visi, etc.. Different worlds.

They will all meet soon enough - likely in 10 years or so when the Sidwell and GDS students with these amazing ED results stop for lunch on their way to a family ski trip and the kids from these lesser schools take their order at McDonalds.

But it also evens out the reverse situation where all 4 Penn admits were the prior year does it not? You’d get the wrong impression from that as well

The reverse trend is important to show as well. If it’s a new trend/change, then you’re not getting the wrong impression. That may be the new normal for STA seniors who are interested in Penn.

Schools should show cumulative numbers, BUT they should also show the admissions results for the most recent graduating class. This isn’t difficult—Bullis already provides this information. Why don’t the other schools? Why doesn’t STA provide anything, besides cumulative numbers?

Btw, I don’t believe that STA students haven’t started an Instagram account due to their own independent decision. STA has made it clear that the school administration doesn’t want it and the students probably fear repercussions. Certainly, that’s STA’s choice, but it makes it look like they’re hiding something.

They do provide current numbers to the community. It’s just that the STA community doesn’t feel like sharing it with you.

I don’t have anything to prove to you. Believe it or not. Thankfully, she attends a much better school.

Show us the receipts or it didn’t happen. Did I get that right?

Like I said, I don’t have anything to prove. However, I will share (for kicks and giggles) a funny NCS story. NCS didn’t offer a shadow day before my oldest daughter was admitted. After she was admitted, she was sent a shadow day invitation. It included a program at the National Cathedral. I just looked at the email—it’s referred to as “School Cathedral.” However, the shadow day did not include lunch. It was the ONLY school she considered that didn’t include lunch because the shadow day started at 8 am and ended at 11:15 am! She was already over NCS, but that was the final straw. She refused to attend the shadow day, saying she had seen enough.

Btw, another all girls school that admitted her, Holton-Arms, had a fabulous shadow day. As a matter of fact, Holton is an amazing school. It’s just a bit too far away from our house.

Well this thread went off the rails…anyone want to bring it back to college commits?

For those of you with seniors at private schools, how do you feel the college office is doing/has done? Did you feel like they helped your student come up with a good list that included a balance of reaches/targets/likelies? How was advice around EA and ED applications? So, far are your student’s classmates happy with results or disappointed/surprised with outcomes?

Probably for the best. Based on your writing style and your bizarre thinking and chip on your shoulder I don't think your daughter would have fit in. This sort of low brow behavior isn't the norm at NCS. It has a high class vibe and terms like "receipts" and some ofter choice language is not used by adults there.
