In most big cities violent crime is declining. In Washington the opposite is true

You know, you don't have to be a native to stay her long term and care. Just so you know.

I mean, I was actually born here, but know many people who weren't who are very committed to the future of this city.

Those committed to making it a DSA "utopia" seem to be in charge. Those committed to reestablishing safety and QOL, say at 2016 levels, seem to be on the back foot. The later are the majority of the public, but electeds don't seem to be responsive to that group.

There are natives and non-natives in both groups. A more useful metric may be people who intended to stay in DC long term vs. those here for a shot time.

Some transplants on the Council seem to see DC as some sort of "Lab" for ideology,, no matter how many back bodies, including those of children pile up in the street. Instead of sending a clear message re: crime and safety, as Baltimore has done, they elevate murderers to roles in the CJS. The USA is one of the weakest prosecutors in the entire nation and the AG fancies himself a social worker.

It's possible to care about DC from afar while valuing your safety and that of your family. That is where we and several neighbors seem to have landed.

DC is not even close to bottoming out and making serious changes, despite @dccrimefacts click bait headline. By the time Pinto's bill passes, it will be even further watered down and neutered. These are not serious people making serious changes. More businesses will leave, CRE will implode and DC will reset to the 80s in many ways...Chasing West Coast policies that those cities have pulled back on.

Sounds like the infant may have been shot deliberately during a carjacking?!

Someone needs to find these guys and wreck them.

We have come to this. There were some egregious and well publicized (rightfully) incidents of police violence in the past decade that the social justice crowd applied Part for Whole thinking to dismantle justice and policing. Maybe some of you upset by this were part of that. I'm sure you are good people, but by dismantling all justice and policing, now we are here.

We have an anarchical society - open borders, looting shops, shooting babies. We are not willing to expect the most basic civility from anyone, and we don't teach civics or shared manners in school. We have dismantled all of our social apparatus. And now we are here.

Any remedy layered on top of this will be so much worse, than if the social justice crowd has worked for evolution, not revolution. Yes, you all are real change-makers. Congratulations on the society you've created for the next generation. Not this baby of course. Because now we are here .

Horrifying. So was the execution style shooting of the man picking his wife up from work.

We were talking about moving out of DC but now have expanded that to leaving the DMV.

NoVA and MoCo have weak prosecutors and Allen style legislation, along with restorative justice. In the 90s, moving to VA or MD was a way to get much better QOL and much greater safety. I think they are following DC in some very unfortunate ways.

This is true. I know in VA both Fairfax County and Alexandria City voted for new progressive Commonwealth Attorneys over veteran prosecutors. They were in the news quite a bit until DC crime skyrocketed. However, I think you can still escape most of the crime problems by moving to VA since the area is more beholden to business than activists (DC). If businesses were moving out of VA due to crime you could be sure there would be swift changes being made as well as statewide consequences for Democrats running for office.

DC is a mess and I don't think it is near bottoming out and a course correction. The financial crash will be unprecedented.

Another Control Board may be needed as the financial devastation plays out. Not sure how many sensible people there would be to tap...

Update re: 3 year old murdered yesterday, a quick arrest by PG LE

I cannot even imagine what the mother, who was holding the boy when he was shot, is going through.

Note, PG still publishes mug shots, DC does not. Has not in decades.

This all took place in daylight.

DC should publish them. That way, when SJW judges release violent criminals pending trial, law abiding citizens will know who to watch out for.

DC will have to are a deal with the Feds and get some sort of control board.
