That would be a very dumb thing for a Dranesville candidate to say.

However, she did say that McLean families dissatisfied with the crappy building conditions there might consider pupil placing their kids to Herndon, which is 15 miles away. No bus to get them there, mind you, just parents schlepping the kids back and forth every day.

That wasn’t exactly a brilliant suggestion, either.

Did she really say that? I watched the candidate debate and didn’t hear that. I sure hope she’s not that clueless.

Yes, though she left out the part about Herndon being 15 miles away.

Where did she say that?

At a forum in McLean earlier this month.

Can you please explain what pornography you believe is being provided to Kindergarteners? And how are teachers "promoting race hatred"? Do you believe that transgenderism is "gender pseudoscience"?

Why do you think that the common home sex ed book "It's Perfectly Normal" is "pornography"?

Have you actually read the book? It's not "pornography".

Paul leans too far right for my tastes; Robyn Lady leans too far left. But I'll vote for Paul because he takes the overcrowding and subpar conditions at McLean HS seriously. In comparison, Robyn's "solution" is to suggest that parents who can arrange for their kids' transportation, who tend to be wealthier, should consider pupil placing their kids out of MHS to other schools, including Herndon. That is just a recipe for the continued neglect of MHS.

There’s a pattern of the Republican candidates either not responding to basic questions or, when they do respond, they give empty platitudes and vague nothing answers.

There is nothing stopping him from completing it today.

I'd like to hear directly from the Democratic candidates. Could you tell me when one of them might make themselves available here on DCUM? Thanks.

We haven’t heard anything substantial from Paul either.

Ask him to explain his own comments and he goes silent. Not a good look.

Paul has at least provided reasons at various times as to why he is running and his priorities. I have no idea why Robyn Lady is running other than that she’s now retired and apparently needs something else to do. She certainly won’t be much of an advocate for Dranesville families.

And yet, he *voluntarily* put himself out there and make an effort to answer some of the questions - at least, those that were asked in good faith. I don't blame him for departing and ignoring the pile on from LWNJs. Meanwhile, we have seen ZERO Dem candidates here on DCUM. Cowards.

To be fair, I recall her suggesting that perhaps MHS students could pupil place to schools with capacity like Langley or Herndon (the two other HS in the Dranesville district). I don't think pupil placing is a great solution overall, but just want to point out that she did at least mention Langley as well, however the fact she even mentioned Herndon as an option seemed pretty out-of-touch with reality/geography.

Not Paul but it’s well established that schools are seeing an increase in mental health issues and gender fluidity both which often are comorbid. This is happening more in public schools and because society has enabled it. Encouraged it. Obviously the school policies now are having an effect because we are seeing an increase. We need leaders who are tolerant but also better able to help schools have less mental health issues which in turn will bring down the gender fluidity.

Sounds like she doesn’t understand either geography or how the pupil placement rules work. Not impressed at all with her.

Change your stance on this and I would actually consider voting for you as your stance on other issues makes sense to me

Schools ban things all the time that some parents find perfectly ok.

Why is removing explicit graphic novels any different than banning R rated movies in high school/junior high, or PG rated movies in elementary school.

Deciding that graphic sex novels are inappropriate for the minor students is not "banning books"

I wonder why the only books being “banned” happen to be LGBTQ books.

About sex?

There are many books with graphic heterosexual sex.

Thank goodness they are not in the FCPS libraries. And we want to keep it that way!

Why do you think that? Have you actually been to any FCPS libraries? There are many books with adult content in high school libraries.

Please share with me information on the books with images (drawings or pictures) of heterosexual sexual acts in FCPS’ libraries. What are the titles, and what section of the school libraries are they in?

“Graphic sex” doesn’t mean illustrations.

Exactly! What people are objecting to is the illustrations (drawings and pictures) of explicit sexual acts that can be easily seen by any students, including those who can barely read because we have those students even in HS, and they would be the most vulnerable.

View the images and decide for yourself:

https://theiowastandard.com/shocking-images-from-book-gender-queer-which-is-stocked-in-school-libraries-across-iowa/

Why not look at the images in our public school libraries, and available to your children?

The current school board fought vigorously and long to make sure this book stays in schools. The current school board even went so far as to convene a hand-picked committee (who they chose) to “review” the material at the link, and deem it “not pornographic.”

Personally, if this material is so important, I don’t see why parents can’t just buy it for their kids outside of school, and give it to their kids at home.

Agree. If some parents want to sexualize their children, maybe that is their family culture/tradition, I fully respect it. But public schools, funded by tax payers, should not promote this.
