You can advocate for a school to be moved up in the renovation queue because it desperately needs renovations (whether it needs them more than other schools, I have no idea). Tying renovations to McLean's tax base is unnecessary and makes you seem really out of touch.

Of the 24, the two projected to get the most additional students, and it’s due almost entirely to additional multi-family housing, are Marshall and McLean. Marshall is about at full capacity and has a temporary modular. McLean has been overcrowded for a decade and has trailers and a temporary modular. And both include areas in Dranesville.

What candidate running for School Board in Dranesville would not want to prioritize making sure Marshall and McLean have enough permanent seats to accommodate this recent and future growth? Jimmy Bierman, the Democrat running for the Dranesville seat on the Board of Supervisors, has certainly said this is a priority of his.

For some reason, Robyn Lady just doesn’t seem to get it, so she shows up at events in McLean and says the only thing she might do is try and make it easier for people in McLean unhappy about the overcrowding there to send their kids to other schools, including Herndon, which is over 10 miles away. [Ilryong Moon was at the event where she said this, and he visibly winced when she made these comments, as he could see how tone-deaf she was.].

I thought Chantilly HS and CVHS were the most over capacity schools, hence the need for the Western HS?

There will be no "Western HS". Don't you people understand this yet?
DP

So are they taking the $150M that was earmarked for Western HS and doing Chantilly and CVHS expansions instead? Seems reasonable.

That would leave McLean as the most overcapacity HS that doesn't currently have an identified path to relieve it.

McLean HS is not even on the current renovation queue.

Robyn Lady will prevent anything being done to renovate McLean because she thinks McLean is too “privileged.”

When did she say this?

DP. I’m sure she never said this. She may not even think it. What she has said is that those dissatisfied with the conditions at MHS should look into attending Herndon - 15 miles away - instead. #Get2Green

Bartkowski didn’t say what you’re implying he said in the first paragraph. As for the second paragraph, why shouldn’t taxpayers in that area expect to be treated equitably by FCPS?

Not necessarily. They referred to what they believe Lady thinks, and then someone else asked when she’d expressed that view.

I’ve commented on this thread whenever people have put words in Lady’s or Bartkowski’s mouth. I prefer to go on what the candidates have actually said and, based on their actual remarks, it’s clear that Bartkowski would more vigorously advocate for addressing the decade-long facilities issues at McLean HS expeditiously. Lady conveys absolutely no sense of urgency about addressing the school’s needs.

If Paul is still reading this thread, I would like to see if he would please submit answers to the SEPTA survey. Either here or directly with SEPTA.

I am a Republican, active in SEPTA, live in Dransville district and have a child with special needs. I find it very disturbing that he did not bother to respond.

The PP used quotes as if it was something she actually said. She didn’t.

At best, the PP is misleading. AKA lying.

+1

This is a serious question and it would be useful for him to respond.

Nonsense. And you are no more entitled to put words in PP’s mouth than they would be to put words in Lady’s mouth.

However, those of us who’ve actually listened to Lady have come away strongly believing that she’ll just be one more defender of the status quo in FCPS. That’s not what Dranesville needs right now, especially after the milquetoast Elaine Tholen.

Lady never said McLean is too “privileged.”

That would be a very dumb thing for a Dranesville candidate to say.

However, she did say that McLean families dissatisfied with the crappy building conditions there might consider pupil placing their kids to Herndon, which is 15 miles away. No bus to get them there, mind you, just parents schlepping the kids back and forth every day.

That wasn’t exactly a brilliant suggestion, either.

Did she really say that? I watched the candidate debate and didn’t hear that. I sure hope she’s not that clueless.

Yes, though she left out the part about Herndon being 15 miles away.
