The Golden Bachelor

April was obviously not Gerry's type but she grew on me. Pretty nice and a little kooky, not in a bad way.

These women are acting no different from the 20-somethings who go on dating shows. They’ve known this guy for a week and have spent a few hours with him…and they’re all in love? And he’s basically kissing all of them? I thought age brought wisdom!
(And whole Sandra seems awesome, missing your daughters wedding for this is not at all cool.).

Have you heard of this place called The Villages in Florida? Yes, pretty much everyone over the age of 50 in Florida behaves and acts like teenagers.

Agree - promised DC I would never miss her wedding to do a show like this. Also that I would never go in such a show due to the vast majority of people having their hearts broken. The ads for next episode show even Gary having a really hard time with the multiple courtships at once.

Agree with you - the haste to love against all odds seems weird in a bad way given their ages.

He's hot for her though. Even a nice 73 year old goes for superficial, a little depressing.

The ATV date looked fun and not sure I could see any of the women going for that other than Leslie. Definitely not Teresa. Leslie comes across as gentle and soft-spoken. There is a sweetness to them I didn’t anticipate. And, yes, he finds her hot.

I agree but one thing I realized after watching this scene, and more generally, is that Gerry likes feeling like the protector. Cute little Teresa brings that out in him the most, as was apparent from his response to the Kathy mess.

Leslie is Jewish...and that cultural difference could be an issue. Leslie would probably want someone who doesn't need everything explained to them about Jewish traditions. Another reason Theresa lines up well with Gerry's life/experiences.

Random thoughts:

-I never watched The Bachelor and I find all the kissing he does with everyone sort of gross! (I don’t like watching people kiss in movies/TV so maybe that’s part of it but it just seems like veering into STD territory). The show is addictive though.

-Everyone is pretty mature and that’s nice. I have watched Love is Blind and Married at First Sight with some very immature people so this is refreshing.

-Leslie is very attractive but there’s something off-putting about her. I can’t put my finger on what it is. Maybe it’s that she seems fun (ATV ride) but not really; she seems kind of sad but trying to hide it, maybe? I also think she and Faith are too young for him and Nancy was too.

-I think he will pick Leslie though because she is attractive and says she really likes him. I don’t see it lasting because their lifestyles seem too different.

-I knew two women who up and moved to another state in their 70s to be with someone. Both were widows who had reconnected with a high school boyfriend. One situation ended badly; she had a heart attack and died right after she got there. I’m not sure how the other turned out.

The show reminds me of recent reports that STD rates have grown enormously among seniors. Apparently there are misconceptions around confusing lack of fertility issues with immunity to STDs.

+1 on thinking all the kissing is gross. I'm not interested in kissing someone who was kissing someone else five minutes ago. On the other bachelor shows do they have sex? If so, majorly gross.

Leslie seems too young and has a hippy vibe that doesn't feel like Gerry. Also she doesn't have the stable relationship history that I think appeals to him.

I am sure there is a lot of pressure from producers to be ' inlove' and add the romantic pressure to the show.

I can't imagine women in that age group generally being in love after spending a few hours with someone. They should be far too smart and experienced for that.

Yes, I agree that Kathy was very insecure and I totally understand her not wanting to hear Theresa's giddy comments about her and Gerry. I was surprised that Theresa felt the need to go to Gerry and tattletale and act all hurt. What is she 12? I think that was petty, and she did misrepresent the conversation between her and Kathy, so that was very underhanded.

I saw an interview with him saying they did not have sex in the fantasy suite - they used the time to have deeper convos they didn’t want on camera. That’s really smart of them

Leslie and Gerry have nothing in common, despite being a good looking man he is really an old fisherman at heart and she is a wild child.
The woman he needs is a fellow midwesterner who likes that boating life. But in a show like this they are always too tempted to pick the hot ones who they aren't compatible with.
