Not Garrett Park- great school and community |
+1 |
This is sad to read. I attended Tilden over 50 years ago. It was a different time but definitely good and bad. Two tragedies stand out: one boy was killed when someone smashed a beer bottle into his head in a nearby park. Another boy died of hepatitis.
There were definitely some mean girls even back then, but I just kept my head down and tried to go unnoticed. This mostly worked and a did have a group of good friends to hang out with. I think it was Tilden Junior High back then. |
Wow PP here. Another memory came back— we had a really sweet young male chorus teacher who was bullied so badly by the kids that he finally left. So sad! |
I have an 8th grader at Tilden and haven't experienced most of what this thread entails. My kid is kind of in their own world, so maybe that's why. I sometimes attend the PTA meetings virtually and don't really feel that connected to the community (we dont live in the cluster--my kid is there for a special program). But my child loves their teachers and I've always felt included in what I need to know.
I guess my point is that even with some miserable parents, Tilden can be a fine middle school experience. My spouse teaches at another MCPS middle school and regularly breaks up fights, hears cursing all day long, has students talking back and refusing to put away phones, and worse. So I'd say Tilden is far from the worst. |
In our experience, Tilden Drama is terrible. The person who runs it had a lot of conflict with kids. Lots of students there do not want to participate in Tilden Drama after being treated poorly by him |
Wasn't this the school that had lots of drama with a particular teacher (after Gaza conflict escalated) or was that a different middle school? |
Any positive improvement in Tilden community or is it still the same situation?
Yes, I am aware of Tilden joining Woodward potentially with 35-45% FARMS. But my question was specifically about Tilden families/kids behaviour. Is situation still the same? |
Situation is still the same. Now with Tilden becoming high FARMS HS, I regret buying in this pocket.
Negative: Tilden Community, High FARMS HS Positive: Proximity to many things. |
Avoid this Tilden Area. It was not great earlier and now it will be a with high FARMS HS.
Ideally, just skip WJ cluster and buy in Churchill or Whitman closer to HS to avoid boundary issues. |
Tilden was having non-stop issues and now with new boudary it will be assinged to a 40-50% FARMS HS. Nothing positive going for Tilden area. |
Yea we messed up buying here too |
The problem is that the former principal allowed it to become entrenched as a practice even though she knew it was being used to bully some kids. |
And now she will be the principal at QO. |
The new boundaries haven't been set yet |
