Why do you think violent people are raging like this?

As soon as we get guns off the streets we should absolutely figure that out.

You’ll get guns off the streets like you’re getting fentanyl off the streets.

And in two days Abbott is going to speak at the NRA conference just a few hundred miles from where this happened. Apparently 18 dead children and 3 dead adults is an acceptable sacrifice for some extra campaign $$.

The NYT article I just read said Trump and Ted Cruz are also speaking at the NRA conference. What will be the company line at that echo chamber event?

Immigration control and mental health services.

And arming teachers. Texas AG already said this today.

Yep that is working well in the Ukraine. No one gets killed when everyone is armed to the teeth. There is no “friendly fire” or civilians killed. Just the “bad guy” gun owner who was the hero of the republicans yesterday.

My greatest fear is that it will become all of us who must have a gun because too many do. People are really dumb so having a gun is totally unsafe. 400M guns makes buyback program pessimistic. It's a question of when not if things get so out of control living in US is terrifyingly unsafe. As in living in El Salvador or another place where high crime is rampant. Again everyone will then need a gun which is not exactly comforting because people will still not know how to shoot.

He shot grandma first and then ran from police into the school where he shot anyone in his way, teachers and children. How the hell did he get into the school? How far is his house from the school to the point that police did not alert the nearby school to go into lock down? The school failed these children. Lock the doors! The shooter looks crazy… I am so tired of this bs. Let me guess, he got made fun of in school? I will say it each and every time, leave the mentally ill and disabled children to their own schools. They are not capable of the real world.

It’s easier to buy a gun vs fentanyl.

Heartbroken and infuriated at the AVOIDABLE, needless death and suffering of vulnerable, innocent children.

I hope someone shoots up or bombs the NRA or starts picking off their prominent supporters one by one. Maybe using their weapons against them will change things. In my view it’s morally justifiable.

This will get deleted, but I mean it.

We are truly a horrible country to allow the slaughter of our children. We could stop it tomorrow.

But we do have gun laws, and criminals and mentally ill people break them. Keeping guns out of the hands of law abiding, sane citizens will not fix the problem. Crack down on real criminals would be one way to get started. But instead, we're doing the complete opposite.

Good guys with guns are not stopping the bad guys with guns. The gun culture in this country is the problem and the lax regulations are a symptom. It all needs to change.

In this case, the good guys with guns killed the gunman. Why there was not one resource officer at the actual school is a whole other issue. How did he get in?

One resource officer against a mentally unstable shooter with ARs? Who do you think is going to survive that one?

Multiple law enforcement officers did everything they possibly could today and what is the death toll still up to?
“Officers and Border Patrol agents placed themselves between the shooter and the children, multiple people told The Washington Post.”

Mentally ill and disabled children are FAR FAR likelier to be harmed by others than harm other people.

Well I don't think it stops automatically but certainly the right thing to do and a good start. It's everything that adds up to someone doing this. It's anger and hurt and the ease of shooting up people. Limiting sale of legit guns is a place to start but do you know how easy it is to still get one? It's both limiting access and culturally working to mitigate the behavior. It's both to be fair, it's not just guns but of course it would curb a lot of other situations where people are hurt needlessly.

I feel the same way. It comes from complete helplessness and horror.

Just stop. You have no idea what you are talking about. School are not fortresses with highly trained professional guards. This is a a problem of guns and ammo access. Texas has no restrictions on weapons or ammo. The problem is everyone who will vote republicans in fall.
