July or August summer school

Anonymous
My son's private school offers summer school in Highschool where he can take a course over the summer and get ahead.

He can choose July or August to do it. It's full day, six hours for four weeks.

Regular school goes from sept 9 to jun 27.

So, I need to decide if he should do July or August.
I know it's early but we need to book a vacation for the other month.

If he is in sports, I would select July for summer school as sports practices often start in August.

Sports are unaffected.
He does martial arts but it is year round.

Do what makes sense for your family schedule. No big deal.

I am trying to figure out what is better.
After 10 months of school, is it better to have no time off and do another months?
OR is it better to have a month off? then go back early for a month. Then he would have 1 week off before starting back.

WHERE DID I SAY THIS WAS A BIG DEAL?

IF YOU HAVE NOTHING OF VALUE TO ADD, DONT WASTE YOUR TIME POSTING.

I'd do August. He'll get a break like everybody else, but will be in learning mode when school starts.August seems to be overly hot usually, good time to sit indoors.

Thats what I was thinking. Thanks.

Chill out OP. Take what you get or don't come here and ask.

Why the patronizing "no big deal" comment?

My dd had summer school for 3 weeks in July which worked pretty well. She had a couple of weeks break after school then all of August off. I think going in August would be hard to have to jump back into school in Sept. She really needed the August break.

Agreed. I took a summer school course in HS to get ahead as well. July was my only option, but it was definitely nice having some time off on either side (and I'm in my 20s now, so this wasn't THAT long ago). It might vary based on what class he's taking though. For example if he's planning to take a math course that is part of a sequence, it might be better to do August so that there is no gap between courses. But if he's taking something that is more standalone July is fine.

What does the group of friends usually do over the summer? I would schedule around that.
