U.S. Soccer, in collaboration with the Board of Directors’ Technical Development Committee, is currently conducting a formal survey with members, leagues, and clubs. We will present the findings and recommended path forward at the Board of Directors meeting on November 22. U.S. Soccer plans to communicate the path forward to the ecosystem by the end of the year.

Can you provide s link?

All I see is what US Cub Soccer has posted.

I could be wrong but I'm betting a parent got into the sauce and mixed up US Soccer and US Club Soccer websites.

I do not believe US club and all the other organizations will implement until fall 25. But I heard ECNL had a meeting last week or so and one of the topics was letting ECNL teams shuffle players around for spring if they were rostered with the team before 1/1/25.

So an ECNL 2010 would be eligible to play in the spring with 2011 if they are in the same grade and the team has additional roster space.

But this is just a rumor. And if we know anything rumors are usually Bs.

Well there you go

I’m very happy they are considering Sept 1. August 1 makes no sense at all. Almost half the states are either 8/31 or 9/1. And I don’t care that my 8/2 kid will be the youngest.

Will be a different cut off depending on the state. California will be 8/1 because that’s the cutoff for most schools. Just wait and see will let each state association decide. Then ECNL will say we don’t want different cut offs and will go based off grad year. Ayso and lower comp teams will use new cutoffs.

GY will never happen because it shifts power from Clubs to Private High Schools. Why would players pay for club if HS soccer offered the same thing for free?

GY also allows held back players who are generally a year older than their classmates to play against other kids in their grade. This would kill competition and force both Club and HS teams into encouraging parents to hold back their kids for wins.

GY would be suicide for ECNL to implement. Clubs would literally leave the league because of it.

Conventional wisdom suggests it will revert back to what it was before, which seems to be what most clubs want since most were in opposition to the change when it first happened.

Agreed, and HS soccer has absolutely nothing to do with this either LOL!

I agree but there's some numbnut that keeps trying to include GY in the mix.

Wasn't VA previously 7/1?

You’re insane to think private high schools would dominate the market because of grad year. Most coaches just do it for 1000K dollars and for fun. Not high level coaching for the vast majority.

No girls are playing high school for more than just fun competition with their school friends.

No way! High schools don’t want to corner the market or run year round programs. As they need field space for other sports. That’s a pretty bogus argument.

Maybe a few like IMG could do something like that but would need to start a club team and charge 50K plus for tuition. Not going to happen on a large scale.

Club will always dominate youth soccer.

Not sure if you know this but the current system allows and holdbacks to get an extra year of U19 clubs are seeing kids who didn’t get picked up for college play another year of club. There’s already a 18 month difference at the U19 level.

Well when ECNL goes to a model that resembles grad year I expect you to return here and post I am a numbnut.

I’ve heard they will have grad year for the high school senior age group. If a kid was held back they will get to compete. But it might trickle down into the high school ages.

Prepare!

Nope, clubs won't allow it.
