Or is this really a “packing of the bench of extremists” that’s been part of Republican plan for decades?

No. Look at her history.

Cannon earned a Bachelor of Arts from Duke University, and a Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School. She began her legal career as a law clerk to Judge Steven Colloton of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.

Cannon worked as an associate at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida.Cannon has been a member of the Federalist Society since 2005.

She is of Hispanic descent and her mother fled communist Cuba.

Federal judicial service
On April 29, 2020, President Donald Trump announced his intent to nominate Cannon to serve as a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

Stalin like doing this. You promote someone who is totally unqualified for the position. They will remain lay to you because they know the only reason they are in the position is because of you.

Are you a lawyer, or familiar with the legal field? She seems to have pretty standard qualifications for becoming a judge.

Lol yes. Qualification = Federalist Society. That’s all you need a wink is good as a nudge.

Ok, thanks for confirming you have no idea what you are talking about here. She clerked for a well regarded appeals court judge, worked at a top tier firm and then also worked as an assistant us attorney. Those are considered very strong credentials in the legal world, especially for someone being appointed as a judge.

She was also rated as "unqualified" by the ABA and has just produced a brief that has little basis in facts or reality, that is being panned by serious jurists on both the left and right.

Nobody actually cares what the ABA thinks about anything.

Not true.

No, you don't "got it." At all.

No, people are upset that Trump is being given special treatment, with a court actually ordering a significant arm of a criminal investigation frozen because Trump wants the government to return evidence against him. How many other subjects of criminal investigations get to file a shitty brief and then have the court say, "No, sorry government, you can't move forward with your investigation because it might make this person look bad if they're indicted"?

This is why it’s so important for the Dems to hold onto the Senate so that Biden can continue to get his judges confirmed. It’s all about the judges. Vote blue no matter who.

Non existent EP aside.
How does this play out?

It delays everything.

No, the ODNI is still able to proceed with the damage assessment, which includes getting fingerprints on the evidence and tracking it.

No. The judge said everything must stop. The ruling said even things not in dispute in terms of EP and ACP must be reviewed and nothing can be done with anything. She stop the investigation. DOJ and ODNI are the executive branch and as such the rule applies to all EB. Biden has to step in and issue a formal statement saying he does not extend EP to trump with these documents. Biden has already issues a form statement saying he has delegated the national archives to look into this issue and the NA has said there is no EP. The corrupt judge said Biden has not said anything about EP. The DOJ is the executive branch and therefore EP does not apply because they are the same.

It is the stupid ruling ever. It’s like she does not understand the how the law works. This will open appeals on any cases she has presided over.

The decision says the national security risk investigation will continue. I don’t recall the precise wording, but what she enjoined is the criminal investigation of Trump related to what was seized.

How on earth does the DOJ keep assessing security damage and it not implicate TFG?
I just don’t understand. How does the DOJ change how they are handling the case?

No not with the documents recovered from August. The judge said these can not be used. The other investigation from documents given back earlier in the year can continue. For some reason she feels she has say over that investigation also.

People are upset because the independent person will be looking into issues of executive privilege, and Trump doesn’t have any executive privilege with regard to these documents. It’s like having an independent person look for evidence thar the tooth fairy exists.

It's more like having your house robbed and having a judge appoint an independent person to look for evidence that your stuff is actually, really yours because the burglar says its his because he used to live in your house until he got evicted.

And the investigation must stop because the reputation of the guy who robbed you might be damaged. Also the judge who is in debt to the criminal will appoint an “independent” person who is also in debt to the guy who robbed your house. I am waiting for the judge to start talking about admiralty jurisdiction.

And that's the heart of why these ruling is so stupid. She's stopping the executive branch from engaging in one function - criminal investigation - while allowing it to engage in another - protecting national security.

Isn't the biggest problem that this is a separation of powers issue? A judge has ordered a criminal investigation to stop. How many defense attorneys are now going to go to court to get a similar injunction?

Delay is the point.

Right and muddying the legal waters like this will gum up the works. She’s basically obstructing.

Agreed. Judge has completely overstepped.
