Why on earth would you have that expectation?

You can read through the thread. Not going to repeat about earlier survey done with WJ families about expanding WJ or reopening Woodward.

So you all are just in denial about the scope of the boundary study which was approved by the BOE years ago because your community was surveyed about expanding WJ so you thought you'd get a new school all to yourselves, paid for with taxpayer dollars? You are completely unhinged.

No, we thought WJ would split into two, with DCC schools joining us for 2 nice, diverse high schools close to home. Not getting split up and bused 45 minutes across county for I guess more diversity, when diversity is right here close to home.

You are the unhinged, my friend.

None of what you are describing has happened. It is one of 4 options. Also, the drive from Farmland to Kennedy is a grand total of 9 minutes longer than the current drive from Farmland to WJ.

No you are unhinged. The survey position was to reopen Woodward, split WJ between WJ and Woodward, knowing that both WJ and Woodward boundaries would include current DCC students. Knowing that both schools would include current DCC students is literally the opposite of keeping it all to ourselves. But you need the strawnan of bad west county to feel better about yourself.

DH went in person to give feedback. The response was “Dr Taylor says there isn’t a wrong time to do the right thing”

Well that's not promising.

I'm not gonna lie, it gives me some pleasure to see some of you squirm like this

You get pleasure at the thought of children sitting on a bus for 45 minutes twice a day because some adults make you feel less than?
That is kind of lame.

Also I don’t believe property values should be part of this discussion because a) values are unpredictable and never guarenteed, and b) on principal not relevant to the BOE whose duty is only to determine how best to educate all children.

However, I sometimes wonder if part of the motivation for east county advocates is belief that they will gain financially covered in socially acceptable rhetoric about racicom and segregation.

It was a survey! Why do you think because you were surveyed you get to unilaterally decide what MCPS does with taxpayer funded assets?

Lol

Property values in East county are high enough, thanks.

I get pleasure at the discomfort some of you feel about your kids going to schools you consider bad, but are comfortable with thousands of other people's kids going to those same schools.

I don’t.

But i reject your assertion that WJ families want to keep Woodward all to themselves.

9 minutes longer? Completely untrue. Not sure what your source is, but I suggest you try that drive yourself. And the proper comparison point is Woodward, not WJ.

Or maybe we express our discomfort by supporting higher taxes to pay for resources to make all schools better.

Because in the end, kids will attend all the schools. So the best way to make education better for all the kids is to improve all the schools.

You know they won't go to those schools, right? So the planned for diversity won't happen.

I'm not squirming. We can afford private and can afford to move. But I think it's a bad sign for the county -- we are certainly not the only family prepared to move.

Oh no, you'll leave? Now I'm scared

You are going to see that a lot of people will leave. And that will change MCPS.
