| I have no strong opinion on shot clocks. But perusing playoff scores it doesn't seem like volume of scoring is an issue. I don't see any 3-0 games, or even 8-2 where someone is freezing it for most of the game. I don't doubt it happens sometimes, but seems like a solution seeking a problem. Or just a "yeah we should have that" idea. What's the problem it is solving? |

There are likely several things involved with VHSL schools not moving to shot clocks yet, but I would imagine that in the next few years it happens. 1. Execution prohibitive - Many schools can barley get volunteers to run the table/scoreboard, and trying to have someone pay close enough attention to the game and ref signals to reset the shot clock would be an issue. However, the refs can manually keep the shot clock, but expecting players to be counting it down in their heads? 2. You need to purchase Shot clocks for both ends of the field, and getting every program under VHSL to do that would be an issue. 3. Overall skill set and Field IQ across VHSL (not Robinson & Madison) doesn't warrant the push to add the shot clock metric now. Would it speed at the game? Yes. Would players adapt and figure out the shot clock? Yes. The argument that it will prepare players for the college game is not relevant. While true, that accounts for about 2% of HS players in Virginia. I do hope VHSL adds the shot clock in the future across VHSL. |
| I don’t see the need for a shot clock for about 90% to 95% of public school teams I’ve witnessed. Maybe for a state tourney it might have value. |
It is not just simply adding a clock it would require switching to NCAA rules there is more to it than just a clock. Officials would need to be updated. Clearing rules change. Private schools play NCAA rules so it is possible. |
On your number 2, most games are played on football fields where there is typically a play clock. Those clocks are designed to be re-programed for more than just football play clocks. This wouldn't be a huge ask. Everything else you wrote can easily be worked around and overcome. |
Private schools do not "play NCAA rules". Neither the ISL or the WCAC follow recent NCAA rule changes on Green Cards between restraining line, releasable and unreleasable cards, etc. Shot clock only major differences I see from VHSL 6A in terms of rules, etc. |
Rules changes happen all the time per USA Lacrosse HS rules and VHSL rules, non issue. You do know that officials that do the games in the area, WALOA, ref VHSL, Maryland Public, IAC, MAC, VISAA, NVYLL and NCAA. They are doing all sorts of rules anyway. If everyone went to a shot clock, it would be easier for them to play College/HS and youth, not College/Private, HS (no clock) and Rec. |
No one cares. Look at the rosters of the top lacrosse schools. Plenty of private school kids from the DC area, but no kids from VA public schools. You're fighting over scraps. |
218 pages worth of discussions, I think that means you’re wrong that no one cares tough guy. Is your sons name Pinnacle Dowington McArthur III? |
Green card? ISL? We are having a different conversation. |
I keep saying this. I need my kid in the WCAC and pay them $200k so he can play D1 for no NIL and maybe get that PLL $30k contract. |
PP cant understand that the title of the thread is "BOYS" and not girls. |
