Wouldn’t this be stupid competitively? All it takes is one club that decides to recruit and not be quiet about it and the clubs that are keeping their players and families in the dark look like 1) idiots 2) liars / sneaks / dishonest 3) not looking out for their players. The greatest recipe to lose players and families is to keep them in the dark and then spring it on them. |
Where are you reading that? All the rumors suggest it will revert back to what it was before because all the clubs liked it and it worked. That was 8/1 - 7/31 cutoff for a certain year (say 8/1/12 - 7/31/13) because it captures most all of the country in a school year. Pretty sure it was never strict grad year for just high school. |
I’m talking strictly from the posts on X from college soccer truth that ECNL will goto Grad Year. All their post say grad year. US soccer change has always been 8/1. Will ECNL on their own thing for their league games and showcases. |
Staying BY alone will not bring any financial advantage. MLSN and EA will be forced (because of potential revenue loss) to follow the trend after 11/22. |
The top youth league will have to change if a lower league decides to change their eligibility cutoff dates? |
MLSN will not lose any revenue if they stay BY. Boys club soccer doesn't function like girls club soccer |
They are not stupid. |
| My daughter’s birthday is June 28, 2010, but we held her back because that is what her preschool recommended because she wasn’t emotionally prepared. She is in Eighth grade and under the current system is trapped because we held her back (which we did for the right reasons and I don’t regret). If they go back to grade year but have a cut off of Aug 1- July 31, she will be in the exact same situation as she is now. We certainly weren’t thinking about sports when we held her back at 5! I don’t know what the “right” thing to do is, but there are a ton of girls and boys in her grade that are June early July birthdays that will be impacted. Not sure if there is a perfect solution. |
That’s right- they don’t worry about revenue because they are just fine. That’s why DA still exists….oh wait. They shut that down because they couldn’t afford to run it anymore Hmmm…me thinks somebody has their head in the sand if they think reputation leads to safety. Just ask all those DA players who were left scrambling 3 years ago… |
No smart guy. It has nothing to do with DA. On the boys side there's much more competition for pro, semi pro, college, everything. What this means is if you want to play at a higher level you need to play in MLS Next as a youth because it's where all the recruiters will be looking for talent. Also most MLSN players are encouraged to play up and if there's a player MLS Clubs think will develop at a later date they can play down. Basically everything ECNL wants to do changing from BY to SY is already available in MLSN. Also also there's money and contracts with boys at levels that don't exist on the girls side. In the end it just doesn't matter if MLSN stays BY. Players will gravitate to where the highest levels of play and visability reside. (Ie not ECNL) |
MLSN does not equal to MLS Academy. Have played both MLSN and ECNL in Socal, I will say most MLSN teams are average ECNL teams. I will move my kid from MLSN to ECNL after the change. |
I will say that both non academy MLS and ECNL teams will both get looked over by recruiters. This is how competitive it is to play higher level boys/mens soccer. |
| Interesting… SD Surf posted on their instagram their tryout dates and times and age groups…still split up by Calenday Year….. |
Well, it isn't a thing until its a thing. |
Says tryouts are first week of December. Right after the “vote”. Will be interesting how this plays out. |
