It's gone quiet because there isn't a unanimous decision. Leagues dont know what's going to happen so they're all waiting for some kind of compelling event to decide on next steps.

🤣🤣🤣 is that what you keep telling yourself. There is literally nothing to say at this point until the vote.
There doesn't need to be a unanimous decision so nobody is waiting for one. Play stupid with your clubs players so they don't look to jump while recruiting outside Aug-Dec seems about right for youth soccer.

A unanimous decision would be ideal for the soccer in this country. Last thing we need is a more fractured landscape. A BY pipeline and a separate SY pipeline all trying to funnel in the same place.

Knowing priorities in the different organizations, I am sure they will go with a fractured pipeline because it keeps their wallets and shareholders happy. Damn the kids, damn the sports we are getting rich boys!
This fractured system seems needed for youth soccer to finally address RAE in some way.

If you mean more options between BY/SY I agree. But I don’t think clubs want to deal with that. MLSN teams could just play their own showcases and expand their biobanding from 3 kids to 5 and they will basically be in compliance.

MLSN and EA will stay together, either BY or SY. Considering summer tournaments are big deals to players and their families and also important revenue sources for clubs, I bet MLSN clubs will not take such a risk of losing players and will go with the majority, which will be SY. ECNL, with its several alliances, has strong arms to push this agenda forward.

You're not listening to what others are saying.

MLSN doesn't need to switch to SY. They can stay BY and still enter in tournaments and do well.

It truly doesn't matter.

Wait after 11/22. MLSN/EA will change to align. Being forced to change is always better than staying in BY and losing revenue.

You realize that MLS basically runs US Soccer? People have complained about it for years. US Soccer isn't going to force MLS to do anything they don't want to do.

As I said before MLS can stay BY and still enter into SY tournaments. There's nothings they can't do if they choose to stay BY. The only thing that wouldn't work is if a MLSN club chose to run a tournament and wanted to invite SY clubs. But that's easy to address. You just call it a BY tournament with 18 exceptions for Aug 1 to Dec 31 players.

Take off your ECNL blinders every once in a while.

They’re trying to funnel in one place. One prioritizes getting kids into college and another path is pro/high D1. Kids on the latter path don’t really want to play with kids whose goals are limited.

NOT TRYING TO FUNNEL
It may be unfortunate for the kids at MLS Academies that they have to play against the other MLS Next teams and with MLS Next adding more and more teams, the play is gonna get weaker and weaker. The nature of youth soccer, keep growing into a collapse.

Doubt it. Play will get stronger.

Unrealistic if they continue to add about 10 new clubs a year as they have in the past few years. Approaching 12,000 players. Could always do regulation with NAL though.

Relegation in the older age groups perhaps. They don’t even keep standings at U13 and U14.

Which is good, need those years focused on development and not wins

We have played more good teams than bad. We’ve played maybe two teams which I would consider bad in that they played mostly kickball and/or their players could barely string a few passes along. A few other teams relied too much on the physical even though I could tell their players were high skilled. And then there are very technical teams who haven’t learned how to muscle up just yet.

Better development has to start somewhere and I’m hopeful for MLSNext.

If MLS Next shuts down down the road like DA there will just be another acronym org to be the new thing which is really just the same thing again.

It’s like the Matrix. It’s the 15th iteration of the same growth/collapse cycle.

Any idea if this is going to be Grad year or School year? Every post online is grad year for ECNL specifically. It seems certain at this point things will switch to school year (8/1). But everything I see online says Grad year.

I think it’s school year with 8/1 cutoff

I think it’s strict grad year in high school.

Before HS it will be school year with flexible 8/1 to capture kids who have a school cutoff after 8/1 and before Sept 1.

Everything online says Grad Year for ECNL. Will ECNL go GY while everyone else is on 8/1?
