Ok so everyone hates high end homes calling them gaudy blah blah blah
I assume it is the mickey simpson fans or rambler dwellers Here are some of my favorites but I guess I am gaudy http://www.redfin.com/VA/Mclean/1005-Founders-Ridge-Ln-22102/home/12070551

First one, lot is waaay too small
Second, great lot. Dogshit tacky house. Third gets it right |

These two below have awful decor, but that aside -- if I had that kind of money to spend, I'd spend it on a waterfront home with a view and a huge lot.

I like those annapolis homes but maybe I should have clarified that I am thinking of dream homes where you can be near DC for commuting purposes and great schools. The Annapolis area has poor schools but I guess if you are buying a 18 million house you could afford private. |

If I had a ton of money - this is more what I'd be looking for. Or a rowhouse in G-town or Cap Hill. I don't really want a house that resembles a castle.

The second Annapolis home is in a good district. I mean, it's the same conundrum for a good portion of this area, right -- worrying about schools. Most people who are spending this kind of cash in any city are probably using private. To be close-in with good schools -- OK. I love custom, newish homes like this. It doesn't have the glitz factor of the places you posted but looks warm and inviting despite its large space. http://www.redfin.com/MD/Bethesda/6800-Hillmead-Rd-20817/home/10701678 |

I saw this one in Potomac Maryland. There are no photos on the net since the owner bought the lot and built on it and never sold. It looks like a jewel when you drive by it:

Here's another one I really liked when it was on the market:

| I will take #2, thanks. |

It's not $8M+, but I'd take it...

halcyon house or evermay.
the same couple that bought evermay also bought halcyon house. out of current listings...i bet the manse at 15 dupont circle would sell if offered 18 in cash. |
| in this kind of price range, i would require a property to have real history and character. |
I think both Halcyon House and Evermay were north of $18M. |
