Great as long as you are not in Kentlands.

why

Busing the Kentlands to Gaithersburg or Crown is just absurd. Not that I’m not enjoying the maga there whose tiny racist brain cells are exploding about these new boundaries but because they are fiscally irresponsible of the county and stupid. Kentlands walks to QO there is no reality sending them to the other HS makes sense logistically or fiscally.

As for Dufief yes

As for Stonemill out of W again no because W is already under enrolled. And the mapping logic makes no sense either.

They will do the worst possible senerio people get ready for major bussing.

You realize parts of dufief, stone mill and Travilah of basically equidistant to Wootton? And Dufief has maybe 35 kids per grade TOTAL. Dufief is part of the Wootton community, has been since forever. They don’t want to move schools. Moving them doesn’t help anything. Wootton is under enrolled, as you said. Just leave dufief alone.

How about just leaving Wootton alone. Why does MCPS create 4 options just to generate fights between different ES within Wootton? That’s pure evil and community dividing. Crown is built to alleviate overcrowding of other schools and Wootton is not overcrowded. None of the four options change diversity of any school so just leave Wootton alone. Don’t make the poorer neighborhoods in Wootton to pay the price just to satisfy this diversity game.

In this case, which school neighborhood should zone to Crown HS?

Crown neighborhood, QO, RM, whatever left is overcrowded

Neighborhoods near Crown are currently zoned for Wootton. Makes sense to include it.

No that is only a bunch of townhouses and maybe some apartments. Not enough to play with Wooton. They should go to crown they are in waking distance but to take Stonemill out of wooton one of its largest feeders is stupid logistics. Wooton is under enrolled.

All four options added the whole Wayside ES to Wootton, so Wootton is not under-enrolled when that happens. Wayside doesn't want to go to Wootton anyways. They should leave both Churchill and Wootton alone.

So, Churchill and wootton cluster stay the same is not fair and it is not an option.

Anonymous wrote:Why move Dufief though? It’s attended Frost and Wootton for decades (neither school is over crowded) and has such a small student population it barely makes a difference in total numbers.

Because DuFief is not geographically close to Wootton. There are many other neighborhoods and schools that are closer and DuFief is very close to QO. Why dont you care about neighborhood schools and geographic proximity like all the other parents?

Sure, neighborhood schools. That’s why three out of four of the dufief options have split articulation and bus them all over. And they make massive changes to Dufief while making more minor ones to the surrounding Travilah and Stone Mill. I’m sure it’s really about neighborhood schools and geographic proximity and not at all about the fact they think DuFief will just sit quietly and not fight this.

Dufief is already bused farther away to Wootton and Frost. Many parts of Dufief are within walking/biking distance to QO. Not sure what you mean by "bus them all over". I think we get it, you don't want you children going to school with poor people.

Sounds like you are stuck on option 1 and not paying attention to the rest of them and all of the split articulation that goes along with the other options. That is terrible for kid’s mental health. And no, QO is not a school with poor people in my opinion. However, I did pay a premium to buy in a certain district, based on historical zoning, and I won’t act like that doesn’t matter.

How does this premium work in a school district? Can you not buy a house in the new district that you prefer, and now you will have two premiums, more better than before?

I am PP of above- yes, totally agree. Leave Wootton alone. But they won’t.

Totally agree 100%.

Only part that makes sense is that triangle. Not stone mill not lakewood not Dufief not Travilah

That part of neighborhood should redrawn to crown hs. Other than that leave the Wootton alone, plus why would they put wayside into Wootton

Not too much. If none of these families want to move, why force them

I've been reading 22 pages of people trying to find an argument for the option that would benefit themselves. Let's be all honest. This is not about what is fair or what is good for the community, county, or anything else. Everyone has his/her own interest in mind. It is not possible to please everyone. I think MCPS did their best to come up with 4 reasonable options. I hope they converge into one of them without dragging this process for too long and move onto other things that require immediate attention.

300 students over capacity is too much. That's 10 classrooms of students.

Additionally from an ongoing operational cost standpoint, far more efficient to have fewer but larger schools so long as we’re not taking about 3000+ high schools everywhere.

Think of all the wasted staff to run the school. Economics of having 2 less principals, 6 less assistant principals, 2 less biz managers, etc not to mention the facility upkeep. Feels like way more inefficient.

Large schools defy research about their detrimental effects on students.

I agree totally.

I’ll also add that, possibly due to DCUM demographics, it doesn’t seem like there’s anyone advocating for kids at schools with higher percentage of FARMS gets balanced out. That IS in the interest of at least some families in these boundaries, whether or not it’s represented on DCUM. I personally feel that it’s also in the interest of the greater good (and I have a non FARMS kid at an elementary with a high FARMS population). I understand, however, that many parents here do not want FARMS better balanced. That is, of course their right, but it would be nice to see it at least occasionally acknowledged.

No they are not reasonable from a logistics or financial standpoint.

MCPS failed with every single one of these options.

There is no reason to do most of these moves.

A new school is opening. Moves must be done. Show us the moves you would make.
