| My 7 yo DD is really into Disney shows- Jessie, Shake it Up, Kickin' It, ANT Farm, Hannah Montana, etc. Some of the stuff really makes me cringe and doesn't seem age appropriate, and the focus is on looks and attracting the opposite sex. Plus, the kids say some really annoying things that she has picked up. I haven't banned them though. Wondering what other people think. |
| I do not allow my 7 year old to watch those shows. |
| I'm in same boat. I let her watch but am really thinking of stopping. I didn't realize those shows were less than innocent. |
|
I cut off "Jessie" when I asked my 8 yr DD where the parents were and her reply was "They are celebrities, they do not have time to be home"
Also the stereotyping -- head shaking little black girl and the obviously fake accent of the little indian boy with a lizard named Rudyard Kipling DONE We do some Shake it Up Still do Ant Farm, but that may because I have not watched enough episodes to have caught on to the offensive stuff |
| Nope. Hence we don't have cable any more. Occasional Disney/Pixar/Dreamworks movies via Netflix or good old Mr. Ed (the talking horse) via youtube. Will let them "graduate" to watch Green Acres in a few years. |

My child was actually first exposed to these shows at school...

13:27 here
my DD is spending the summer with my mom and she has her hooked on "The Waltons", "Little House on the Prairie" and any 1940's movies they play on TCM |

I honestly think these shows are designed to convince our kids that parents are unecessary annoyances
I cannot believe that parents actually let their kids act in these shows. |
| I once watched Jack Black on iCarly and the double entendres were out of control. He actually asked someone to hold his balls. |
| Never would allow DCs to watch the disney channel. Nope. |
What? Wow. That is terrible. |
|
I hate those shows because the adults are all idiots, and the kids run rings around them constantly. Drives me nuts.
I can now tolerate Good Luck, Charlie, but only because the parents may sometimes act silly, but the kids do not disrespect them. |
yep...can tolerate Good Luck Charlie |

Jessie - I let her watch it at the beach, but pointed out the obvious racial stereotyping and dumb girl stuff that they did on the show
Shake it Up - some boy/girl stuff, but reminds me more of "I Love Lucy," than anything else. Don't hate this one. Kickin' It -- hated this -- total boyfriend/girlfriend stuff, dishonesty, and let's not forget racial stereotyping ANT Farm-- harmless and funny Hannah Montana - OVER MY DEAD BODY |
