| How much spending money are you giving your child a month? They are living in the dorm with meal plan. This is money above books, fees etc. |
| Can DC get a PT job for spending money? |
|
What location?
Urban school, she'll need more |

There was a lengthy thread on this recently. We do $200/month. It is supposed to cover clothing but doesn't always. We pay separately for prescriptions, doctor bills, etc.
Some people will argue that college kids shouldn't get an allowance. My DC has worked in the summer but does not work at school. DC is not on fin aid and the campus jobs go to fin aid kids. Also DC does sports so doesn't have a lot of extra time or much flexibility in schedule. |
| $80 a month. That's enough to go out to eat once or twice a week, or buy a little gift for a friend. |
| Zero for my twins. They have tuition, books, room and board covered, and I let them each have a used car to keep on campus. They don't need anything else. Ay extras, including gas, come out of their own pockets. They have worked summer jobs for years and each has about $3,000 in savings at the moment. |
| Ay=any. |
| 200 twice a month- on the 15th and the 25th. Meal plan covers 16 meals a week, so mine gets 400 a month for extras. Out of state, city campus, large school. |
Is this for a girl? I'm seeing that my HS daughter spends lots more money than college age DS. Even aside from clothes, her drugstore "necessary" purchases (hair/skin/makeup etc) are adding up to a small fortune. |
No it's a boy. A butt-munchie über picky boy with OCD and anxiety who enjoys the expensive hobbies of tech and music. He is a hard worker tho, who is attending out of state on merit aid. |
| A butt-munchie? I have to ask: what is this? |
| I got 1300 a month for housing, spending and books. This was back in the late 90s so things may be more expensive now. |
Ohh I still had to have the emergency 400 deposited from dad at the end of the month.haha, those were the days so much fun . |
It's a term of endearment for a crapass.

| $50/week. We transfer that into DS checking account on a weekly basis. When he was a Freshman I wasn't sure how good he would be at managing his money. This is separate from "campus-cash" account used for laundry - laundry only. Lattes, to-go snacks from the on-campus cafes, etc come out of the weekly $. Every place will take a debit card to no need to have much in "campus-cash" accounts ~ it's one approach. We made a lot of $ in the summer but asks that I keep it in a savings account so he won't be too tempted to go thru it. |
