ECNL moving to school year not calendar

Changing from BY to SY will fix way more problems than it creates. A subsequent shift to GY will then cause way more problems than it fixes. The only people arguing that BY is the best system are the ones benefitting from RAE today and who believe their kid is one well-cropped VEO clip away from a shot at playing in Europe.

Seems like things are going quiet. Message is out to the clubs don't say a word as it will create a storm of calls and emails. Wait for it to be announced.

It's gone quiet because there isn't a unanimous decision. Leagues dont know what's going to happen so they're all waiting for some kind of compelling event to decide on next steps.

🤣🤣🤣 is that what you keep telling yourself. There is literally nothing to say at this point until the vote.

There's 3 leagues who have made clear what they prefer.

There is one league that's said it will do whatever US Soccer chooses.

There's 2 leaues that haven't said anything about what they plan to do.

These are the facts backed up by statements by the leagues themselves and/or league leadership statements.

There doesn't need to be a unanimous decision so nobody is waiting for one. Play stupid with your clubs players so they don't look to jump while recruiting outside Aug-Dec seems about right for youth soccer.

A unanimous decision would be ideal for the soccer in this country. Last thing we need is a more fractured landscape. A BY pipeline and a separate SY pipeline all trying to funnel in the same place.

Knowing priorities in the different organizations, I am sure they will go with a fractured pipeline because it keeps their wallets and shareholders happy. Damn the kids, damn the sports we are getting rich boys!

They’re trying to funnel in one place. One prioritizes getting kids into college and another path is pro/high D1. Kids on the latter path don’t really want to play with kids whose goals are limited.

This fractured system seems needed for youth soccer to finally address RAE in some way.

MLSN/EA will surrender to SY. Tournaments are big deals for both clubs and players.

They will be reluctant to switch as well. Only MLS Academy will stay in BY.

That’s something that I don’t understand.

How different is MLS Next to MLS Academy?

Please could you clarify that point?

Thanks.

MLS Academy is affiliated with a mls professional team the others are not.
MLS Academies do not have all the age groups U13-U19 from what I understand.

If you mean more options between BY/SY I agree. But I don’t think clubs want to deal with that. MLSN teams could just play their own showcases and expand their biobanding from 3 kids to 5 and they will basically be in compliance.

MLSN and EA will stay together, either BY or SY. Considering summer tournaments are big deals to players and their families and also important revenue sources for clubs, I bet MLSN clubs will not take such a risk of losing players and will go with the majority, which will be SY. ECNL, with its several alliances, has strong arms to push this agenda forward.
