Meghan has only gained and got everything she wanted. One day Harry will realize this and we will have to see how he reacts.

Only thing he gave up was his country. The only future is for the actual heir. The spares don’t even seem to get properties anymore. Just leases. Andrew is a spare and what future do his girls have? None of them will be working royals and will have to have a job to maintain their lifestyle. Same with all the other spares’ kids. Their future is the same as anyone else from a wealthy family. Except Harry and Meghan will likely have more money to leave their children than the previous generation of spares will.

Harry basically asked for a leave of absence from the family business and his family fired him professionally and personally. Can’t blame Meghan for that.

Not blaming Meghan. Just stating fact. Harry gave up more than Meghan has. He gave up his country and he also gave up his family. His children won't know their cousins like he and William did. And the history. He is one of a rare families and he gave it all up. Sure, spares weren't treated well but, I think once Prince Charles is king things could have been better.

Meghan was initially willing to give up all of those things too to live with him and the BRF. She gave it a try but a combination of forces made that unhealthy for both Meghan and Harry and the could see the writing on the wall for their children.

Look, I don’t know any of these people personally and neither does anyone else on this board so we have only what we see in the press to form our opinions. I don’t have anything against the royals, but you don’t have to be a psychologist to see that there is both good and bad to the ways that Buckingham Palace has handled things over the decades. I understand that they don’t want to look undignified or give up any of the mystique that makes people pay special attention to their causes and good works. I really admire a lot that they have done. But most of them were not raised in a typical loving atmosphere by emotionally attentive parents and it shows. Their emotional constipation has cost them a great deal over the years and they’ve never known how to handle people who marry in from the outside. I thought they might have learned more from Diana’s death but they didn’t.

Most of us think about things we didn’t like about the way we were parented and try to do something different with our own kids. H & M probably aren’t any different in that respect. The main difference is that we don’t do it on the world stage and our families don’t have teams of staff members butting in, undermining the family dynamics for their own purposes, spreading stories about us in the press etc.

I have no idea what any of these people are actually like but I feel sorry for Harry that they wouldn’t meet him halfway. In addition to making the family dynamic a lot worse for no good reason it was really short sighted from a PR perspective. Imagine how much better the royals would have looked if they had made it clear that they would not tolerate treating a family member that badly or if they had spoken out against the awful racism the press was reflecting. It’s a sad waste in so many ways.

Meghan gave up her family long before she married Harry. It was no sacrifice for her ( except Mom) Harry it seemed had a good relationship with his up until he met Meghan. I dont think it was coincidence.

Harry was Meghan’s ticket in. Into the limelight, into society, into fame, into a brand.

Meghan was Harry’s ticket out. Out of the Firm, out of William’s shadow, out of his life of duty.

They’re made for each other.

Something about this just doesn’t sit right.

Same and same. It was excellent, well-thought-out, perfectly executed PR. Harry was always fun and funny, and it was indeed great to see that again. But the vibe is weird. Of course Harry is going to get homesick in a matter of time, and of course the relationship with his brother -- and perhaps especially Kate -- has been deeply damaged by this Instagram influencer nonsense behavior. And the pretense of their charity work via Santa Barbara mansion - come on. James Corden and Oprah are both manipulators in their own way. I don't know. But ugh.

I wonder if all of you concerned about Harry being homesick, in a different country, and separated from his family and friends expressed the same appreciation for Meghan when she was in the same situation.

No, I didn’t. Because Meghan was already living in Canada, not the US; Meghan specifically told friends she was shopping around for a British husband; Harry said Meghan would hit the ground running in England; Meghan had splashy events back in the states with friends, including the infamous NYC baby shower; Meghan’s mom came to visit in England. Meghan was running toward something. Harry is running AWAY from something. Harry, unlike Meghan, has not loved abroad, has not been seen visiting friends and family back home, has not made comments over the years of wanting to meet a woman from America and live in LA. The dynamics are totally different.

Except Harry was very clear over the years that he wanted to get the f out of Britain. Same dynamics. And the fact that he has shown no interest in seeing friends and family back home is very telling - he doesn't miss them. Skype is enough for him probably because his family is known for living in separate castles hours and half a days drive away from each other anyway.

Also you clearly don't know much about him - Harry spent collective years of his life living in East Africa and said his time in Botswana + Kenya were some of the happiest moments in his life. In addition to having served in Afghanistan with his troops.

He has friends in England. It's true that he hasn't seen them in years. Roughly coinciding to when he married Meghan.

Two of his close friends (from way before Meghan) now actually live in Montecito. You wouldn't know that since there are no palace sources in California.

In a way, Harry is doing what his forebears have done for centuries. The second (and third, fourth..)sons or daughters were married off to people in other countries to increase the Crown’s connection to those countries. If they played it right, the BRF could increase their influence and popularity in the US through Prince Harry and Meghan.

Has he no loyalty to blood and country? I mean who is he really getting back at and at what cost and to what ends?

That interview shows his loyalty to blood and country gracefully. He was driven out by the tabloids, left hanging by the palace, and so he protected his family. He has been consistent in that story, and the interview reflects it. He comes across very, very well, and in the process, the palace looks (at best) weak and ineffectual.

Man, it's pretty clear the resident haters have literally no understanding of how PR and marketing work.

He actually goes out of his way in the interview to establish that he still has a good relationship with his grandparents. He made them look better than the British papers have

DP. I haven't seen it, but his family includes his wife and child/ren and it includes his brother, father and grandparents. His family is "the palace".

Who cares about the BRF in America and vice versa?

Why do you think this? My family caused me great stress and I moved far away and I have never been homesick. And I still love and talk to them, but the distance has actually made it possible to not fully walk away.

I feel like a weirdly disproportionate number of Meghan and Harry haters have no idea what it is like to crave freedom from the chains of your childhood. People who had good childhoods have a hard time understanding what it’s like to have not had that. Trust me, I don’t think Harry will ever be homesick. He may miss England on occasion, and he can visit! But he’ll never go back to being a working royal, even if he and MM split up one day. He has been i over this life since his mother died.

You are not watching the same royal family documentaries that I am. Princess Margaret wanted a different life so she married a photographer and hung out with his bohemian friends. Once their marriage was over, she retreated back to her artistocratic circle of friends. I would bet the same will happen to Harry. He also said that he hasn't walked away, but just stepped back. He's leaving the door open to going back.

Margaret did not have any money independent of her sister's the queen. She had no other options, so she went back to being second fiddle to Elizabeth and living off the taxpayers.

The man Margaret married was also her second choice and not the love of her life.

She was refused permission to marry the man she actually fell in love with for five years and eventually gave him up because she didn’t want to lose the royal perks.

Harry is the exact opposite. He went for the woman he loved and he’s already financially free. Within the next few years he’ll be the wealthiest British royal aside from the monarch on top of that.

Margaret and Elizabeth were also woefully uneducated, which Elizabeth realized once she became queen, so it's not like Margaret had the means to strike out on her own.

He makes the individual relationships look more normal, but that doesn't change the fact that the palace looks weak. They wouldn't be whining about the interview via the tabloids if they didn't know how bad it made the palace look. The whiny articles about being "shown up" are proof. The palace looks whiny and weak.

I don't know how old any of you are, but I am a middle-aged person. When I was younger, I couldn't wait to get away from my family, my hometown. I went to college in a neighboring state, where I currently live. Now as a middle aged adult, I love being back in my home state. As you get older, you appreciate what is familiar, you gravitate towards what is familiar. I predict he'll go back to what is familiar to him, without or without her, once this period of finding his freedom gets old.

To be fair, the word on Harry is that he's not that brilliant.

The British royal family is one huge grift, I don’t know how the citizens of the commonwealth can stand it. They have NO CHOICE about being taken for this ride, they’re stuck paying the taxes and watching these inbred ijits sucking at the taxpayer teat while pontificating as though they are any better than your average council estate family with all the infidelity, pedophilia, financial impropriety (talking about you, Fergie), drama drama drama.

Harry and Meghan are at least coming by their new income honestly. She came by her personal fortune honestly and he inherited his from Diana. I think they made an honest effort to play the Firm game but the response to their awful press has been a really toxic mix of coldness and lack of support from royal courtiers and truly awful hatemongering in the comments sections of the Daily Mail, et al. I’ve never seen anything like it and it’s entirely unjustified - Meghan may have stepped wrong here or there but NOTHING justifies this level of hatemongering. I finally agree it’s some sick mix of racism, anti-American sentiment and the age old green monster of jealousy.

I still remember my mother waking me in the wee hours to watch Diana become a princess all those years ago - I was only 10. The years since then, everything that happened to her and now to Harry, make me realize it’s far better to be born a pauper than a prince. Paupers have their freedom.

You have got to be joking. Who would want to hear from Harry if he wasn't a prince? Their income depends entirely on them selling the royal connection. You think Netflix and Spotify gave them a contract for their accomplishments in, I dunno...cinema production? Acting? Harry is getting the contracts that he is for now other reason that he's a prince.
