My takeaway (as an American living in America):
Will and Kate are lovely, dignified people who performed well while some of their hosts acted rather rudely. The hosts look bad, not the guests. The one woman seated next to Kate who famously snubbed her looked like a petulant child. She clearly has no grace. No class. The reality is that the UK and their royals still matter, while these little Caribbean islands are largely still considered third world outposts that outsiders use for beach vacations (largely holed up at luxury resorts where it’s safe). Most locals live in poverty. No wonder they have a chip on their shoulder. But at some point, they need to realize they’ve had independence and can only blame themselves for their current standard of living. |
I literally cannot imagine living with the level of stupidity required to type drivel like this. |

What’s inaccurate? Totally agree with the PP. All of it. |
You sound like you stepped out of the 1950s. |
More like the 1850s. The Queen had more class than to 'recreate' moments from her forefathers trips to islands. Can you imagine if Elizabeth had decided 'oh I want to take some fanciful photos like dear grandmama'. They would have had slaves in the fields for her and Phillip. The Cambriges are fools. And what's more - the world is not keen on their racial charicatures for their family albums either. |
+1000. Spot on. |
Gosh, you are projecting and awful lot onto the BRF. If you have an issue with the events that the hosts countries arranged - because, yes, the host country arranges these events and the visiting country helps with coordination, logistics, and sometimes expenses - then take it up with the Caribbean nations involved. |
As an American, it’s really horrifying to realize how poorly educated some people are — particularly the ones who think that the atrocities of the past are somehow not prologues to the events and circumstances of the present and the future. tldr: When even Prince William is more enlightened than you are…. |
|
The UK still matters.
The BRF? Why and to whom? |
For whatever reason, the BRF has a tremendous global following. That’s just a fact. You really can’t argue with that fact. If nobody cared, the media wouldn’t cover them…and we wouldn’t have so many threads on dcum. |
? Everyone knows about the history. Colonialism. Slavery. Should the Bidens be snubbed and treated rudely when hosted abroad? I mean, American history includes atrocities around the world…with many more atrocities having occurred in recent years/decades while Biden was in office. Point being: when you are on display on the world stage with cameras everywhere, you behave in a dignified way. Will and Kate behaved appropriately. Some of their hosts did not. Historic events should not impact how you treat anyone—especially guests you are hosting. |
Its the Queens Jubilee. The palace staff reached out to rush these too lazy moths to the West Indies because William at 40 had never been to a single one. They demanded all the pompous military parades and grandstanding of the monarch and they got it. I guarantee the Wessex won't be making the same errors next month. Just like Charles, the actual Prince of Wales, someone managed to make it to both Tuvalu and Jamaica without putting on slavemaster scenarios. They got what they deserved. |
A talking dog can do what William and Kate did. Stand on cue and smile for the photos. A head of state is supposed to be able to read the political situation of the country they are in (ideally one they've visited many times before and not for some weird 72-hour jaunts 10 years into their marriage) and tailor a tour accordingly. William is a failure. The realms don't want a future with him. |

ICYMI: the British actually made slave trade impossible for others once they abolished it. That was due in large part to their colonial foothold. History is complicated. |
