My DD is going into 1st. She had a Lands End backpack for pre-K and K. After only 2 years it has had it (ripping on the outside and on the inside). I'm trying to decide if I want to go with Lands End again (although I do not really like how they redesigned their packs-size wise). I'm wondering how LLBean, Jansport, High Sierra all hold up. I know last year Costco sold high sierra and Jansport I believe I can get almost anywhere. Is it worth it to just keep replacing backpacks each year or should I be looking for one that will again last multiple years. I've noticed the prices are not that different between Lands End, LLBean and the ones you can get at Target etc...
I've had good luck with LL bean. Kids have had their ll bean backpacks for 3 years, still in decent shape. Before that, I had bought off brand backpacks, and they each tore in a year. Ll bean will replace as well if wears out.
LL Bean backpacks. Great shape after 4 years. I still have my LL Bean backpack from 25 years ago and it is still in good shape. Won't buy any other kind.
Another vote for LL Bean. My child is going into 3rd with the same backpack we got her from K. No holes, tears, etc.
I always buy Lands End for the durability. As a safety measure I am careful never to have my children's names monogrammed on the back packs. I have the initials put on them instead.
OP here. I originally bought LE for both my kids. DS's backpack is in great shape and he will be using it for a 3rd year. DD's backpack has tears on the front and the straps are in bad shape. The piece that clips the front pocket also fell off. Since DS's backpack is fine (same brand but different style LE than DD's) I'm assuming DD is much harder on her backpack. Thank you to everyone for the LLBean recs. I'm going to try that for DD this time. |
Another LL Bean fan. Sorry about the Lands End bag. I always thought they were comparable in quality. If you think the wear is unusual, it may be worth a call to LE. They are good at replacing things.
My son has used the junior LL Bean backpack for 3 yrs. Easy to wash and it looks like new. I did buy him the regular sized original LL Beacn backpack for 3rd grade b/c he needs to be able to fit a binder in it.
LL Bean never rip. if they do they are guaranteed.
We've used Garnet Hill for years. Great quality.
pottery barn... 2 years and still looks brand new.
LL Bean.

We have had great luck with LLBean and REI.

LL Bean again
Purchased at Target. Going on 3 years, in great shape.
