GY will force parents to hold their kids back in school to get on the top teams. And the top teams will all be hold back kids. Just like in basketball and lax. Which ultimately will discourage players from playing and encourage players to held back a year in school.

On the girls side this doesn’t happen. It’s 1% of girls if that. If your kid is good enough it won’t matter. But I actually agree that we should keep it at birth year.

It happens in every sport that is defined by GY. Both Boys and Girls.

Think about it...

Say you had a kid that was dominate on their team. Clubs are going to pressure parents to hold them back so they can be super dominate on a year younger team. This will be the difference between D2 and D1 scholarship opportunities. Or put another way partial and full ride scholarships at the same colleges.
.

I have June birth year daughter that will be the youngest with a change. I personally don’t care if we go school year, birth year, or grad year. I am not worried about some girl who couldn’t cut it in her age group and moves down. Playing up is the norm for top girls on top teams on top clubs. I guess what I find funny is all birth year parents that want a change but are so worried about grad year cause of kids being held back. As I said it won’t matter, if your kid is good enough it’s all noise.

BY parents are trying to highlight that changing to SY is a slippery slope that can easily translate to GY.

Under GY ECNL or GA would be equivalent to High School soccer. Once this happens Private Schools can offer scholarships to all the top players in the area. Have them "regrade" or get held back and beat everyone ECNL or GA or whatever.

I agree sorry. I meant school year parents. You are correct I understand the slippery slope. It’s what comes with the change to keep girls with their respective classes.

A 70k a year private prep school can offer scholarships to pick and choose who they want on their teams from across the nation because many are also boarding schools.

These teams would play in tournaments and absolutely destroy everyone else all because of GY (which allows playing down) and deep pockets to recruit.

Kiss club soccer goodbye in a GY world.

So why aren't they doing this now? To say that youth soccer going from calendar year to school year dates will cause prep boarding schools to dominate the world seems like Russian bot misinformation level or tin hat level crazy level.

There's people literally pushing for GY 5-6 posts up.

This confuses SY parents who don't really understand BY -> SY in the first place.

Here's a pretty good example...

"Once again why are school year parents so scared of Grad Year. It won’t matter, your kid isn’t good enough whatever the change is. They won’t just randomly be better because of the age change. They will be competing against those “older” kids at some point. Quit crying"

There were several similar comments. Regular people don't understand what GY really means. BY to SY is calendar defined. GY is not.

For those that have seen the unfairness of Basketball understand why you don't want it to happen to soccer.

Do you enjoy making things up? Everything is pointing to just going back to the way things were. It's not literally grade year. Holding your kid back will not change their age group.

Correct under BY and SY holding your kid back in school won't allow them to play down with younger players.

With GY kids that are held back WILL be able to play against players a year younger.

See what's going on and why people are trying to sneak GY into SY discussions? They want to cheat by redshirting their kid down for wins.
Seems paranoid.

GY is like double RAE if you like using soccer terms.

And technically there's really no limit in the number of times parents can hold their kid back. There could be a player that's 2 or even 3 years older than everyone else.
Is paranoid. Where did someone suggest going from school year (which hasn't even been officially announced) to grades? Is this all some propaganda campaign by birthers to throw sand in the gears? Seems way late for that.

All ECNL and it's new buddies need to do is release the SY details and specifically confirm the GY will never be implemented.

Problem solved.

I will say this. At my DDs private school, the top athletes in 3 sports are… a full year older than many. August or very early Sept birthdays. This is true across a couple different grades and as I said, not just limited to soccer. Yes, age can matter, even in HS.
Again i think it goes back to bigger when younger with better training and better teams. It’s a cumulative impact.

Yes, RAE is real and very likely the reason for all of the interest in a change back to school year dates.
