Now with SY you're starting to hear from the GY parents again who are excited for the opportunity to cheat to win.

GY will force parents to hold their kids back in school to get on the top teams. And the top teams will all be hold back kids. Just like in basketball and lax. Which ultimately will discourage players from playing and encourage players to held back a year in school.

Do you enjoy making things up? Everything is pointing to just going back to the way things were. It's not literally grade year. Holding your kid back will not change their age group.

Correct under BY and SY holding your kid back in school won't allow them to play down with younger players.

With GY kids that are held back WILL be able to play against players a year younger.

See what's going on and why people are trying to sneak GY into SY discussions? They want to cheat by redshirting their kid down for wins.
Seems paranoid.

GY is like double RAE if you like using soccer terms.

And technically there's really no limit in the number of times parents can hold their kid back. There could be a player that's 2 or even 3 years older than everyone else.
Is paranoid. Where did someone suggest going from school year (which hasn't even been officially announced) to grades? Is this all some propaganda campaign by birthers to throw sand in the gears? Seems way late for that.

All ECNL and it's new buddies need to do is release the SY details and specifically confirm the GY will never be implemented.

Problem solved.
Not so sure ECNL started this or is setting the rules. "When someone from U.S. Soccer informally asked me earlier this year about my thoughts on moving back to School Year Registration – my quippy response was just that question. I said “Was it worth it? Did it even work? Are our Youth National Teams today winning more in international competitions than they were before?”" https://www.soccerparenting.com/blog/school-year-age-grouping-us-soccer/

Again i think it goes back to bigger when younger with better training and better teams. It’s a cumulative impact.

This is how sports at all the big private schools work.

Parents have the resources to provide everything needed from a training prospective to be a high level player. This makes training table stakes. What gets players to the next level is holding kids back in school so they're playing against younger and smaller competition. Also peds like hgh are used by both male and females provided by doctor dad that wants wins.

Since college recruiters only care about when players graduate you can see why nearly everyone holds their kid back in private school. You get an extra year to redo the same things you've already been taught and it becomes much easier to get good grades this way.

You don't want this nonsense in club soccer. Every player that gets held back for wins takes a spot away from a player that isn't being held back. We all know what happens with RAE.

Give me a break. We all know ECNL is the one pushing for SY and US Soccer is the one that prefers BY.

How does the proposed change (Aug 1 - July 31) encourage redshirting? It doesn't matter what grade you're in, it only matters when your birthday falls. Am I missing something? Or are you just assuming that it will start with school year and then morph to grad year? Did it morph to grad year when it was SY for all of those years before it changes to BY?

ECNL and all the SY people need to be very clear that GY will never happen in club soccer. BY people don't want to change to SY but at least SY maintains all the norms of what defines how youth club soccer is played.

Yes the fear is that SY will morf into GY. You're already seeing it in different threads and on social media. The GY people are doing to SY what SY did to BY. Just being a squeaky wheel and crying that their 16 year old freshman isn't able to play soccer with 14 year old kids in their class at school.

FYI, the top athletes were not healed back, they are Aug and Sept.

In SY with an Aug 1st cutoff if you believe in RAE you are correct Aug and Sept birthdays will have the advantage.

GY is like SY but there's no Aug 1st age cutoff. Parents can hold their kids back in school and whatever grade they are is the grade they play against. The end result is players that are 1 and sometimes 2 years older than their teammates and the players they play against.

Does it make sense now?

Grade year isn't relevant to PP comment.

So DMV is area with Sept 1 cutoff. Some kids are fair just with early bdays. Some were indeed held back with August bdays and are a year older for that reason. In fact some are July, a year older. So there is both. Also, some were stared early, with. Sept bday.
There is nothing fair here and that is life.
Also yes at our private, money means much better training. No question.
Again, such is life.
DD is luckier than many, not as lucky as some.

Was the SY to BY decision announcement in 2017 dragged out like this? Going on 6 months of rumors and conjecture when it was likely already decided before the rumors began.

Yes it was

ECNL will allow teams to add players for spring season. They have to be part of the clubs current RL or NL teams. Players can only be added if there is room on the roster. Can’t drop or switch out for another player.

Current trapped 8th graders will be able to play spring season with U14 if they want to add there is room on the roster.

So my u14 / 2011 DS can technically move down to the U13 team in this upcoming spring??

Potentially. That’s the rumor around town. Also depends on roster size of U13 from what I understand as well. If allocated roster spots are still open.

Based on current rules, each ECNL/RL U14 team can have 2 trapped players from U15 team play down in the spring if the state has high school soccer in the spring.
