The soccer board will have another issue to address. What happens when they are seniors and when they are trapped?
The new trapped players will be people that are held back and private schools that have a cutoff of June 1st

There is no GY trapped players.

They would be forced to play up either 1 grade or 2 grades with BY depending on when they were born. (To play club soccer ECNL GA etc).

In HS soccer or a Private School league they would be able to "play down" with their grade.

So what would happen is they can choose to play club soccer "up" 1 or 2 years in club. Or at their grade in HS soccer. Where they would have an advantage because they're a year older.

Cheaters won't choose to play up when playing down is an option.

Once again why are school year parents so scared of Grad Year. It won’t matter, your kid isn’t good enough whatever the change is. They won’t just randomly be better because of the age change. They will be competing against those “older” kids at some point. Quit crying
They weren't crying. You read into it, like a lot or were responding to the wrong comment by mistake.

It sounds to me that school year parents are afraid that grad year isn’t fair because of the 1% of girls that are held back. I am arguing that their Aug - Dec kiddo shouldn’t worry because they won’t go from RL to NL. Sorry 2 different worlds of soccer. At the end of the day they will be playing at grad year at some point, so deal with it. Also, you have no idea what will happen so your scenario is dumb until we find out what is actually decided.

So where is this school year parent afraid of the hypothetical graduation year change down the road? It is not clear where you are coming up with this.

Take a look at the past 3 pages of this topic. However, reading comprehension and not having an Aug-Dec birthday may be required.

So you couldn't come with a quote of a scared parent being afraid of a change to graduation year either?

With BY you never had to worry about the GY parents trying to bend the rules so their redshirt kids could play down for wins.

Now with SY you're starting to hear from the GY parents again who are excited for the opportunity to cheat to win.

GY will force parents to hold their kids back in school to get on the top teams. And the top teams will all be hold back kids. Just like in basketball and lax. Which ultimately will discourage players from playing and encourage players to held back a year in school.

On the girls side this doesn’t happen. It’s 1% of girls if that. If your kid is good enough it won’t matter. But I actually agree that we should keep it at birth year.

Do you enjoy making things up? Everything is pointing to just going back to the way things were. It's not literally grade year. Holding your kid back will not change their age group.

It happens in every sport that is defined by GY. Both Boys and Girls.

Think about it...

Say you had a kid that was dominate on their team. Clubs are going to pressure parents to hold them back so they can be super dominate on a year younger team. This will be the difference between D2 and D1 scholarship opportunities. Or put another way partial and full ride scholarships at the same colleges.

Correct under BY and SY holding your kid back in school won't allow them to play down with younger players.

With GY kids that are held back WILL be able to play against players a year younger.

See what's going on and why people are trying to sneak GY into SY discussions? They want to cheat by redshirting their kid down for wins.

It's primarily Private School parents that are pushing for GY. First it's because they want to validate cheating. Second it's because Private Schools pressure them into holding their kids back for "academic" reasons. Which really translates to an extra year of tuition being spent. Once the kids been held back parents start figuring out the repercussions and try to change the rules for their little Johnny or Sally.

.

I have June birth year daughter that will be the youngest with a change. I personally don’t care if we go school year, birth year, or grad year. I am not worried about some girl who couldn’t cut it in her age group and moves down. Playing up is the norm for top girls on top teams on top clubs. I guess what I find funny is all birth year parents that want a change but are so worried about grad year cause of kids being held back. As I said it won’t matter, if your kid is good enough it’s all noise.

GY is like double RAE if you like using soccer terms.

And technically there's really no limit in the number of times parents can hold their kid back. There could be a player that's 2 or even 3 years older than everyone else.
