Its funny as so many scream it takes a village to raise kids but when the village needs to come together the village is no longer and its every person to themselves (except for the carpool and babysitting demands but those who demand a village as its free child care but never actually return the support).

You can reduce the risk, but you can't eliminate the risk. Sometimes bad things happen to good people. Sometimes good things happen to bad people!

Actually, we could come close to eliminating the risk. But, that village really isn't a village and only cares about what that village will do for them, so its going to spread and mutate.

How can we come close to eliminating risk in MoCo? What's your plan that nobody else has thought of?

Behavior.

How do you get more appropriate behavior from those who refuse to behave?

Shame them on Facebook.

But really if you want schools, you gotta shit everything else down until the delta wave subsides. Can’t have everything.

We have schools. Despite MCPS's overzealousness with quarantines, most kids are still in-person. But anyway, that's why nobody takes your type of posts seriously. How are you going to pay for everything being shut down? What shutdown exceptions are you going to make? How are you going to enforce it? Infection rates are already so low in MoCo...so how much are you going to incrementally accomplish by locking people away?

MCPS is barely quarantining. Covid is serious. If parents cannot be responsible in their behavior and their kids behavior this is going to keep happening and reducing quarantine is only going to make things worse given how easily covid spreads.

There should be mandatory twice weekly testing, social distancing and much more to help stop the spread. But, there isn't. So, you have your in person school so stop complaining already. You got what you wanted and its still not good enough.

This. Given that we know covid is airborne and can travel through the air ducts, they should really be sending the whole school home for a positive case. Might change behavior finally.

With children making us 1/3 of the county cases right now, good idea. Kids are holding back the entire county.

Kids are not to blame. Parents are.

That’s right. They should be locking those kids into their rooms for another 18 months so they don’t give vaccinated people a cold.

Covid denier, it’s not a cold. Your kids hide in their room because they hate being around you.

To the overwhelming number kids and vaccinated adults, it basically is a cold. That’s really the end-game here. Covid isn’t going away, so case counts don’t really matter. Hospitalizations and deaths are what we should be watching.

This is the end game, of course. Once we get the majority of under-12 kids vaxxed, we'll be there. We still have a transition period to work through.

Then it'll be somewhere between RSV and influenza, and people with preexisting health conditions/immunocompromised will handle covid as they handle those.

Except for the vulnerable- there are tons of people out there who will still die from covid while vaccinated. It’s our duty to protect them.

COVID is not stopping due to the vaccine. The vaccine lessons symptoms. This is not a traditional vaccine. It is not like a cold. A cold hasn't killed this many people in the US and world wide. Stop denying covid is serious.

I always wonder what people mean when they say it's not a traditional vaccine. Do they think that all other vaccines are prevent 100% of infections in 100% of vaccinated people for the rest of their lives? Have they never had a flu vaccine?

The US covid vaccines are based on mRNA, similar to gene therapy.

They will always have the option to wear masks if it suits them. Beyond that, we'll be entirely moving on in all phases of society by 2022.

It kind of matters to the friends and family of the 1 in 500 Americans that have died from it so far.

Pre or post vaccine? If you die now, it’s mostly your own choice.

And the few that do die of Covid after vaccination were not long for this world regardless of Covid.

Not really. Some similar technology is used, but the mRNA vaccines don’t modify genes.

Except for the vulnerable- there are tons of people out there who will still die from covid while vaccinated. It’s our duty to protect them.

We have. Schools were closed for 18 months, except for a couple months of a messy hybrid model. Businesses closed, and some went out of businesses. We’ve spent trillions of dollars, not even including the trillions of lost economic output.

With vaccines out, we’ve largely done all we can. Covid isn’t going away, not matter what we do. Vulnerable people need to get vaccinated, and then need to do their own cost-benefit analysis to determine what restrictions and protections are reasonable to subject themselves to for the rest of their lives.

You must not be living in Montgomery County. Schools were closed a month till they got virtual set up. If your kids didn't participate in virtual, that is your failure as a parent but they were offered school. Businesses closed because they wouldn't change their business model to make it safe. Many that were closed were closed as they weren't financially viable long term and just floating by.

We can do far more but people are selfish and only care about themselves. You can still get and spread covid vaccinated. These vaccines alone are not the fix.
