| I like kids from Stanford and Duke the most - likely to be at least somewhat sociable, and also generally sharp. |
That poster must have one of those long-range internet machines. |
| This thread is 4 years old, people. |
People really do need to think about what they are putting out into the world. Especially the status driven snobs. Focus on your family, and be grateful if they are healthy. |
And?? Still relevant. |
| What’s truly overrated is the big push toward third-rate, Deep South public universities. While the institutions are legitimate educational institutions, nobody is impressed by someone attending them. |
+1 |
Not anymore they are indoctrination centers for Christian nationalists Anyone sending a student to a red state is stupid |
Wow. This could not be more wrong. |
Can you give examples? When I think of third-rate Deep South Public universities, I think like Alabama and Ole Miss which have the same educational experience as other colleges. |
Let's go bump every useless thread over 3 years old. |
| unc, ucla, pomona, amherst |
Strange mix. UNC, sure, it's a very good public university. UCLA, strange, it is one of the best public universities with an amazing campus, guaranteed housing, and some of the best faculty for a public university (you know, other than Berkeley). Pomona, stranger, it is a very good liberal arts college with a high QOL, deep connections with Cambridge University, an amazing consortium to tap into which makes it much more useful than other Liberal Arts Colleges, and has managed to do very well while having the most diverse student body in the US Amherst...Do I have to explain myself. Part of this seems like East Coast bias, other parts seem like ignorance. I could think of MANY state schools that are much more overrated than UCLA and UNC (looking at you ASU) and other top LACs that are much worse (Colby, Bates, Hamilton...) |
Yale, JHU, Stanford. We’re just naming the schools that didn’t aemit our kid, right? |
| Cornell, UVA, Georgetown and my kid got in. |
