If anything it was directed at our fans, it was 2 days before the 4th of July after all. Anyways, don’t understand the need to be searching for a deeper meaning or controversy, it’s a game winner in a World Cup semifinal and she can celebrate as she sees fit. Don’t want her to? Keep her from scoring. I’m not a big fan of Ellen White’s celebration, but she’s damn good, scored, and got to do her thing.

If they (her) can't handle criticism then get off the World stage. Athletes get criticized for less. The celebration was a taunt. Has she had a history of sipping tea as a part of her normal goal celebrations? No. Was it a terrible celebration? No. But as stated earlier, they are now front page news and with it comes the fish bowl and the microscope. If they think this is scrutiny try media week during the Super Bowl.

The biggest problem with Morgan and Rapinoe at this point is their incredibly thin skin over it all. They deserve to be paid MORE than the USMNT but this is what comes with it. So while true, "if you don't wan the celebration don't let her score" the counterpoint is, "if you can't stand the criticism then stay home".

Oh wah. It would appear that England’s got bigger problems than a teatime celebration.

Who finished 3rd in the last Women's World Cup?

You know what’s actually disrespectful to your opponents? Doing what Phil Neville just did. Backhanded congratulations to Sweden and then calling it a “nonsense game.” Even though his players were just throwing themselves with everything they had to try and tie that game. How inspiring.

England had a huge advantage because Sweden had one less day to recover and they played extra time in the previous game. They choked.

This is misogynist. You can not criticize anything about the women’s World Cup even if it is a man coaching women.

Can you really choke in a consolation game or is it more likely it is just anti-climatic?

The real question is can you really be hyping the game up before kickoff then call it a ‘nonsense game’ afterwards because you lost?

I wonder if anyone reminded him that his players won their nonsense game to finish third 4 years ago

They were saying that English starters were knocking on the coach's door begging him to play them so the game was important for them.

I agree that is is also disrespectful. There are a lot of unlikeable people in the spotlight at this World Cup.

Agreed. Neville is a clown and a baby.

I thought this was a parody the first time I saw it. But no, she really is an angry, self-obsessed little jerk.

Normal, rational, polite people: "Good luck in the Gold Cup final, guys. We're rooting for you!"

Megan Rapinoe: "F**k you for stealing our limelight."

Give it a break. Her criticism is directed at FIFA for scheduling the WWC Final on the same day as two (meaningless) men’s tournaments. At best, this scheduling decision is a poor decision by FIFA (after all, the World Cup is supposed to be THE biggest game in soccer). At worst, this scheduling decision shows that FIFA views the women’s game as less important than the men’s game.

This all came up because FIFA announced yesterday that they’d double the prize money at the next WWC. Someone asked Rapinoe about it at a press conference for the Final today, and she answered by basically saying that it’s not enough and pointed out ways in which FIFA was not doing enough to support the women’s game. Regardless of whether one personally likes Rapinoe, she is correct on this point. FIFA should be doing a lot more to support the women’s game. The men’s game did not become a multi-billion money making machine overnight and required significant investments in money, time, etc over the years. The women are correct in asking for the same opportunity and investment.
