He cannot be nominated to anything in today’s Republican Party if he does not vote yes.

Collins will announce yes at 3 o’clock yes, and then it is game over. She’s always the big swing vote and she always goes Republican on the big stuff late in the game. Standard practice for her.

This will allow Murkowski and Manchin to vote no.

Except healthcare. She saved healthcare with John McCain even though he got the glory.

Collins also voted for cloture on Betsy DeVos and then voted against her confirmation.

Didn't know that. As a parent with a child with special needs, who relies on public school support for his accommodations, that touches me personally.

ugh

Manchin said his vote for cloture would be the same as his final vote. So with Murkowski a no and Manchin a yes, Collins could still vote no and then Pence would break a 50-50 tie and Kavanaugh slips through.

And that is the crux of the matter! If there was still a little bit of trust remaining between Rs and Ds, they could hash out a deal to confirm a more centrist conservative. Democrats historically have not had much objections to a conservative-leaning Supreme Court. But here the nominee just pushed all of the left wing's buttons, from being suspected of being willing to protect Trump et al. from consequences of their actions to possibly enabling states to ban abortion.

I just wish there had been some overture on the Democrat side to such a deal.

It isn't up to the democrats to make such an overture. They have no power at all in the government right now. None.

I hope and pray some staff from Flake, Murkowski, and Collins' offices are looking at or posting on this thread--this is the way forward to save our country from ripping apart.

LOL!

Bork? Thomas?

This is the worst ever. To oppose a man because you disagree is one thing--to conduct the politics of personal destruction is another. This truly was the worst. And, for all the talk about bullying these days, those people attacking and bullying Senators is disgusting.

You literally don't understand what bullying is. Be best.

My god. The inhumanity of this.

Did I miss Flake revealing his vote? Or are people just that sure he's a yes?

When did he say that?

What if Manchin votes yes to save the D seat in the Senate and the other 4 vote no?

Plus what about the R going to his daughter's wedding Saturday?

Where did you see this? I haven’t seen him say this.

I think Collins voted yes in committee on DeVos and no in the full vote. She knew she was going to pass the full vote so this was a way for her to cover her ass and have it both ways. That pissed me off. She and Murkowski could have stopped DeVos in committee but this allowed them to have it both ways.

No, Manchin is still being coy. He says "you'll have to see". I still think he wants to know how others are voting before he votes. Being the deciding vote for cloture isn't the same as being the deciding vote for confirmation.

Per CNN - if necessary, they will hold the vote open and he will return to vote early Sunday. And he is a firm yes.

They can hold the vote open until Sunday, possibly giving him time to return.

Manchin walked that back this morning.

Manchin was asked if his cloture vote would correspond to his final confirmation vote. "You'll have to see, huh?"

Tim Kaine was walking with Manchin when he said this and they were talking.
