True fact: Not everyone has the same intelligence level, emotional maturity, social experience, impulse control, ability to handle alcohol, etc. |
And when a kid gets so drunk that he forgets about consent, he should go to jail. If he can't control himself, he shouldn't drink. |
Exactly. And our daughters need to know how to try to protect themselves from people like this one. Punishment after the fact doesn't change what the victim has to endure for a lifetime. |
Nope. Stop blaming the victim. Think about how you would react if she was mugged. You would call the attacker a "thug" an "animal", right? Violating someone's body is a million times worse. The boy is a piece of shit. |
True. When a girl goes to a party, accidentally drinks too much, cheats on her boyfriend and ends up by a dumpster, she shouldn't drink. No college kid should drink. |
Girls who drink themselves into oblivion take a calculated risk that they will be taken advantage of in their inebriated state. So it has always been and so will it always be, regardless of what percentage of men or women who capitalize on their stupidity are punished. |
Men who take the metro alone at night are taking a calculated risk that they will be beaten up and mugged in their vulnerable state. So it has been and so it will always be. Fool. |
There is no way that as a woman I will say that a strange man at a party is responsible for me and my drinking and my behavior. He isn't. If I'm willingly making out with him that's on me. But if I'm passed out behind a dumpster and he is doing as he pleases with my passed out body - that is 100% on him. There is poor judgement and there is sexual assault. This was without a doubt - non-consensual sexual assault. Thank God those Swedes showed up when they did. |

She didn't accidentally get drunk. Her blood alcohol was three times the legal limit. That is no accident.
That said, everything I've read points to total guilt on his part. Being behind a dumpster. Running away when the guys saw them. The major fact that she was not conscious. I cannot believe he didn't realize that. Seriously you wouldn't know if a woman was passed out? |
How about when in doubt, don't have sex with the person. No mental gymnastics or genius needed. Can't figure it out? THEN JUST STOP. |
I think the line is simple. Would you agree that your mom, sister, cousin or aunt is giving consent in the situation? As PPs have mentioned, rape is about violence and power and not sex. He's a rapist who got caught violently raping an unconscious female. Thank goodness for the two Swedes. I forget which justice ended the porn debate. "I know it when I see it" despite difficulty in coming to agreement on a definition. The Swedes saw it and saved her from further harm. |
Yes. While there can be cases with blurry lines, this is not it |
"Hey, are you awake?" Would have been an excellent start. |
Yes, there's a very high chance of a drunk single guy riding on the Metro alone at night being beaten up, mugged, and robbed of money and any valuables while in a vulnerable state. |
Take a good, hard look at the mugshots of convicted rapists and child molestors who've been sent to prison. Then tell us if you think they give a flying f..... about not having sex with their victims. I'm far more interested in doing all that's humanly possible to prevent a criminal act BEFORE the crime is committed. |
