Under George W. Bush, FY 2004-2008, ICE annual funding went from $3.5b to $5b/year, and CBP funding from $7b to $9b/year

Under Barack Obama, FY 2009-2016 it continued to increase, ICE $5.5b-6b/year and CBP $10-$12b. And he conducted a massive number of deportations.

Under Trump I, FY 2017-2020 it increased yet again, ICE $7.5b-$8.5b/year and CBP $14b-$17b/year

Under Biden, FY 2021-2024, they continued to receive increases, ICE $8.5b-$9.6b and CBP $17b-19.3b/year. Note, this is already more than double what it was under George W. Bush and significantly more than Obama.

Under Trump II, FY 2025-2028, ICE got yet another increase, $10b/year, and $17.8b for CBP.

But THEN, Congress also passed OBBA, which provided $75b for ICE and $65b for CBP through FY 2025-2029.

So why are Republicans claiming ICE and CBP aren't funded and it's the Dems fault?

Pay attention to the bolded.....
It is abundantly clear that democrats don't want any more deportations - criminals or not.

House GOP actually passed a bill that would reopen DHS, but ok 🧐

Would be more accurate for NYT to say House GOP rejected Senate bill that left ICE & CBP unfunded, passed rival bill

Why does the distinction matter? Ending the shutdown on this “deal” would come at the expense of ICE & CBP civilian support staff, who are still not being paid - despite the frontline law enforcement officers being funded thru 2029 under OBBB.

Staff would have been permanently locked out under the Senate deal, unless/until R’s can pass a second reconciliation bill. Which looks like a loooong uphill battle.

ICE and CBP have buckets of money, in fact enough to last to 2030. They can pay all staff. If they aren't, that's a theatrical choice on the part of Republicans and the Trump administration. Trump never let administrative hurdles get in the way of him doing whatever the hell he wanted with taxpayer funds so this is pure gamesmanship.

The funding received by ICE ($74.9B) and CBP ($64.7B) in the OBBBA is multi-year funding, good through September 30, 2029 and it's NOT just for field agents, it covers civilian support staff too. It was given with broad spending authority, covering personnel (including civilian support staff), buildings, operations, technology and detention capacity. CBP's likewise covers personnel (agents and support staff), technology, screening systems, IT, vehicles, physical barriers, access roads, sensors, and other infrastructure.

Anyone saying ICE and CBP don't have money or that the money they have can't be used needs to provide a very specific, statute-based rationale why. Because I'm not seeing it.

They have tons of money and shouldn't be asking for a penny more until more is needed AFTER September 30 2029.

Wrong.
"While ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations are funded by OBBBA through 2029, reports indicate that civilian support staff for ERO (Enforcement and Removal Operations) are not included in this funding."

And, if you want to know why there was a needed increase in ICE funding - you can thank Biden for that.
When you let millions of illegal aliens into the country, it is costly to get them out. Especially when Democrats continue to fight the deportation of illegal aliens through law fare.

He's not a king but he has more than enough money to pay ICE and CBP and shouldn't be coming back to Congress to make them give even more money. And the rest of us need to be shutting the Republican lies down.

I don't care. No more money. They have shown they do not deserve the public's trust. Once you kill people and use concentration camps, you don't get more until you can show you're going to be more humane. This should have applied to former Presidents as well, Obama included. We should demand that all human beings be humanely treated by all Presidents. If they don't want to process thousands of humans, well then, making new laws (or enforcing old ones) to stop unauthorized immigration at the border, as well as allowing long-time immigrants to naturalize, would be a great start! The point is to have less backlog, so we don't mistreat humans in our haste.

The fact ICE already has money, but failed to get it attributed to all their personnel, is their problem, not mine.

Pretty sure that the OBBBA bill language didn't say "fund a b and c job series but not d e and f job series" - my understanding is that the bill language was pretty broad.
This sounds like a deliberate internal decision being made within the Executive Branch - that's on Trump.
No more money. They have more than enough funds. They should be paying staff out of the funding they already have.

I hope it works. I hate Trump but TSA/ airports do not need to be in the middle of this fight. I want a separate law passed that TSA is funded regardless of all future budget battles. Plenty of checks still go out when the government is closed and TSA needs to be included.

Tell us you don't understand how federal budgets work.
Remember - Trump is not a king. You should know that by now.

Except they somehow decided that certain job series are able to be funded, they could also choose to just fund everyone else.

100% this.
