| STJ seems to be putting the hard sell on to the running community. There was a track meet yesterday and parents were talking about the reach out. |
You are absolutely right. All Met is a joke. Yes, there are some sure fire studs who get recognized and they should be. The guys going to good P4 schools next year as certainly among the best players in the area. The rest of the list makes no sense. Some of it is based on max preps and some on regional needs. In other words, the Post needs to increase it's subscriptions so they take kids from teams in far reaching areas. Someboys needs to publish a "where are they now" list of all met football players from years past and contrast that with a list of kids where never recognized. |
They do include any Power 4 recruits for revenue sports. Of course, that’s an easy way to include them even if the Post staff has little familiarity with the athlete. For sports like field hockey or Lax or equivalent, the Power 4 schools universally aren’t the best in the country, though certain Power 4 schools may have top ranked teams. |
I can believe it. The other day my son posted on instagram that some kid transferred from their $60,000/yr private school to attend St James. I guess his parents would rather pay $35,000 per year for him to attend the sports focused school. |

A lot of misinformation in the last few posts…
1. Athletes don’t register for 247 or have to go to camps to get a ranking. Also, if a kid goes to the St. James at $30k-ish a year, they can afford to go to college camps. Plus, Overton has dozens of coaches coming in to evaluate his kids during recruiting season. 2. I’m assuming this sophomore DL who “dominates” is Bates who transferred from Herndon and was HONORABLE MENTION All-Met (far from the best in the DMV). He also has attended dozens of camps according to his X account, more than enough to be ranked. 3. All-Met is a joke and isn’t what it once was. The poster who said HS sports are covered by 1.5 people is spot on. According to a coach in Loudoun, it has gotten to the point where All-Met players are nominated by their own coaches. WashPost sends a google form to every head coach in the area SPECIFICALLY asking for 1-2 nominations from their team. Some teams nominate more, some teams don’t nominate anyone. The WashPost picks from those coach selected nominations and historically has heavily favored upperclassman. Stone Bridge nominated Goltson and Getter, which explains why you don’t see their sophomore DBs. |
Why wouldn’t St James nominate their Senior 3 Star receivers? |
| Probably they weren't eligible as the Washington Post only reaches out to real schools not AAU style clubs or programs. |
Goldston is the coach’s son. Of course he’d be nominated his senior year. |
Well why is the Quarterback eligible from the same school and the sophomore that the poster above doesn’t think is that good? |
| The all met qbs this year have to be the weakest group in some time. Very few of them have any decent offers. No idea how they were selected but they are not the top qbs in the area by any means. IYKYK. |
Who is better in this area, statistically, than Caleb Tucker and Will Shields? Mind you they both play in 6A... |
Are track recruits heading to a facility without a track? I always wondered why STJ didn't build a track (it could have circled the fieldhouse). |
Where are those two going to college ? What are their offers ? Generally curious. |
They really missed an opportunity to build a track. It seems like they are using George masons indoor track. They have some good sprinters but the enrollment is low. They don’t have any distance runners and that is who they seem to be contacting |
Agree on the huge missed opportunity. (I have a sprinter and a volleyball player, so I somewhat understand the demands for those two sports) And I would think that it's much harder to convince folks to have their kids commute to STJ Academy for virtual school AND then commute to George Mason than for the other sports where they can stay at StJ all day... |
