Sounds like GA is positioned best on the girls side. Really interested to see how this plays out!

Huh? GA is a second tier girls league making desperate moves after losing many of their best teams last year. They added a ton of mediocre clubs last year and continue to face an uphill battle.

City SC, CUP, IMG, TopHat, Lou Fusz, FL United are better clubs than 90% of ECNL… they can all hang with the big dogs…and that’s without having ECNL….

Most clubs would’ve crumbled by now.

Cherry-picking the remaining top 6 clubs in GA doesn't make the league as strong as ECNL. Sure, the top handful could succeed in ECNL, but it's a fast drop-off after that, and the last 2/3 of GA is just not good. Like the last 1/3 of ECNL.

What you're missing is the top GA clubs exist on their own. They'd be good in any league the play in.

MLSN is now partnered with GA. How many clubs do you think ECNL has strong armed into participating in boys ECNL if they want girls ECNL? If there's more than one someone is going to jump at the chance to play MLSN. If ECNL drops their girls in retaliation they'll go to GA.

ECNL can't retaliate on everyone that switches to MLSN or they'll send even more to GA.

That would cause some infighting

“Why does club x get to have ecnl/MLSN but your forcing us to have both in ECNL”

There's already multiple clubs with that setup.... Bethesda, Delco, PDA, Phoenix Rising, St Louis Scott Gallagher, FC Dallas, Colorado Rapids, and maybe a couple others also

Those are the founding members of both MLS Next and ECNL girls. If ECNL lets in one more club have MLSN and ECNL Girls that's not a founding member in both, they'll have over 100 others asking for the same deal.

Why is being a founding member of a league what allows clubs to have MLSN and girls ECNL?

Seems like an arbitrary thing to make a determination on.

There are only few decent ECNL clubs as well. There are plenty of teams in ECNL in DMV that are struggling

The bolded is wrong on a lot of levels. The (large) majority of the good (Top 30?) girls teams at any age are ECNL teams. GA is a distant second in terms of the number of teams in the top 30. Does that mean there aren't good GA teams and there aren't bad ECNL one? Of course not.

Yes, the ECNL has more top ranked teams. But it’s not due to some magic ECNL fairy dust that makes players better. It’s just the conditions of the last few years allowed them to consolidate players. There is nothing ECNL provides for a top player that the player also wouldn’t be able to achieve if they were playing at a GA club. YNT scouts are at both. P4 coaches go to events at both. It’s strange that people feel so much loyalty to a league.

College coaches feel that way too you know.

Delco and PDA lost their ecnl badges because they didn’t put their 1st teams there like ecnl wanted them to.

ECNL is known for forcing clubs to play in Boys ECNL if they want to play in girls ECNL.

Up until MLSN and GA announced a partnership. They existed completely independent of each other. MLSN never force clubs into GA or vice versa.

If MLSN and GA take a page out of ECNLs playback and start forcing clubs to go all in on MLSN/GA if the want MLSN ECNL won't last very long on the boys or girls sides.

In Michigan, back with MLSN formed, Michigan Wolves/Hawks (a longtime successful nonprofit club) likely separated over this (it was spun as creating a stout standalone girls club).

Same with SD Surf and SDSC Surf 🤫.

SDSC Surf can get mlsn since their girls are already in GA..

SD Surf can then move their best boys there and keep girls in ecnl….

What I'm seeing is that girls ECNL might have leaned on clubs in the past.

People don't forget. This spring will be interesting.

You can try to change the equation all you want to, but bottom line is that right now, for girls soccer, ECNL is a significantly stronger league top to bottom than GA. It doesn't mean that every ECNL team is better than every GA team. It doesn't mean that every ECNL player is better than very GA player. It doesn't mean that GA players won't be scouted to college or national teams.

And who knows what 2/3/4/5+ years will bring, but for the moment, it is what it is. ECNL is the stronger league. The competition is better. College coaches know this, and it plays out in the numbers of commits. US YNT scouts know it was well and it shows in their numbers too. Last year the talent discrepancy got bigger with the GA defections. This coming year maybe it's different and starts to strengthen GA as a whole. And locally, depending on where you are, the GA team may be stronger than the ECNL team. So that could be the best option for your kid.....and that's ok.

No one has said GA is 100% better than ecnl. You are saying people are saying that. ECNL is more deep in clubs than GA at the moments but I bet there are GA clubs that are more established than the one your kid plays on.

I'm happy that "ECNL hat" has become a thing.

It was so ridiculous going to events and listening to numbnuts hype a league over the team (that was usually losing) that their kid was playing on.

99% on this board bet with the 75 when the time comes.

Look, if your kid's got the talent, they'll get seen in ECNL or GA. All the big colleges were at the last GA showcase, too. You can be in ECNL and still not get recruited if they're not putting in the work. Don't let the ECNL coaches on here sway you too much. And hey, don't forget, both the current National Female College player of the year winner and the US Soccer Young Female Player of the Year came from GA.

This is 1000% true.

Sometimes top players even choose the team or league they play on because it's where they get the most minutes and are able to score the most goals, or be the best mid/defender/keeper.

Getting recruited is a mix of standing out on the team and being on a winning team. Both of these generate attention from scouts.

If the same scouts are at GA and ECNL events it doesn't matter which league you play in. What does matter is if your able to get noticed.

And therein lies the problem. The same scouts are NOT at both. Not even close. Are there scouts at both - yes. But don’t pretend it’s even. And if they are the same weekend where do you think the scouts will head?

***remove all the CA clubs from the top 30 and you get an even mix…

My kid play on a GA team. It is what it is. ECNL > GA.
