Olympics Opening Ceremony

That etwork and anchor who was the one greeting U.S. athletes when they arrived in 'America experience village' seem obsessed with Biles. Of course she is an amazing athlete but their focus on her on their news segments is much. Was Biles asked to carry torch on the boat but because she wasn't coming to opening ceremony, they asked Coco who was youngest American to carry torch (along with elder statesman Lebron James)?

This was the worst Olympics ceremony. Celine Dion and the air show was great. Everything else not. The nbc commentary was horrible.

Some great moments. What worked well was parade of boats and makeshift stadium centered around the Eiffel tower. Overall though ceremony as shown on t.v did not flow.

Yet they each earned millions for covering the O!

I thought it was interesting and different. And stop blaming your own small mindedness on some strawman elderly people. It’s on you. My 85-year old, Fox-news watching Republican mother called me up to tell me how exciting and great the opening ceremonies were.

NBC has paid billions to have Olympics on NBC until 2032. They better get different anchors to cover the events. Hottest day on record ever this last week. Move Olympics to spring or fall depending on where host country is located/weather. Apparently, NBC didn't want Olympics conflicting with NFL season (games on NBC) starting in Aug/Sept.

I didn't have a problem with any of it and found it well done. The drag show also wasn't really appropriate, but not a bother. But the mockery of the Last Supper was totally unnecessary and offensive.

Thank god I was able to watch the BBC coverage through my vpn.

Why is everyone saying the reinterpretation is mocking The Last Supper?

We too were watching a lot on screens (each one of the dance segments was on a different bridge across the Seine, we were located in one area).

The security was strict, hundreds of police everywhere, with pistols (holstered guns), and what looks to me like rapid fire machine guns. No one got through without a thorough inspection (inside bags, individually wanded - my empty pockets somehow beeped, and I had to turn my pockets inside out to show there was nothing there).

It was a long, crowded ride home on the subway, but worth it and fun being with the happy crowds.

Unfortunately, still raining hard this morning, and will continue all day. Happily, we are attending indoor events today (Saturday).

Thanks for sharing your experience!

Right? What was going on? Did they just grab them off the street?

That was the joke at our house….

None of that needed to be in there. It was not a pride event. Contrary to some people’s opinion, not everything is a pride event.

The message of inclusion is not offensive to most good people.

They sent Colin Jost to Tahiti for the surfing competitions…

No!!! NBC spent so much to cover Olympics they didn't have $ to hire anchors who knows things or know how to comment??

Exactly - keep your debauchery inside the bedroom. This is about sports and athletic achievement, not a fashion show

It was not America’s turn to host the games. Shut up and absorb a new perspective. You might actually grow as a human.

Well for one thing, the sexual innuendo combined with the wardrobe "malfunction" makes one suspicious of the performers' intentions.
