Um, most of us borrowed it from the library. It was one of the worst books I've ever read. I'm so embarrassed for this poor lady, especially if her friends and colleagues know who she is (I have no skin in this game, my kids go to public school).

Actually I think this book has a purpose. Courtesy of the author the book controversy (small and limited as it is) unwittingly waded right into the important discussion of the status of the young lecturers, a living wage at the universities and their changing career paths. I’m talking about the real scholars dedicating their lives to the academia.

Especially in the context of the real housewives of academia, dropping the word adjunct like it’s icky rings deeply dishonorable to me against the backdrop of that national discourse

To be fair, the incident in Lululemon did in fact sound racist and I have plenty of Chinese-American friends who had similar incidents occur throughout the country, even in California with a high Asian population.
