Yes why is this victim not responding more gracefully to these bullies?

Why is that bully crying and screaming? While the victims try to calmly speak with her.

Anonymous wrote:“I will and I can” are her last words in the video. But before she rather asked for help and faked cried than rent another bike?

Why are people still saying she "fake cried"?

She is sitting on a bike. A man walks up and attempts to push her off of it while he scans the QR code and unlocks the bike. Three other men surround her and tell her it's not her bike and she can't have it.

She isn't fake crying. She is actually upset. Sorry her manifestation of being upset/frustrated does not read as "genuine" to you. It's kind of irrelevant since she did nothing wrong (except cry in a way you find insufficiently convincing I guess?) and this group of men bullied her off a bike.

And she does go rent another bike. They successfully steal the first one from her, she goes and rents another one. The entire interaction lasts maybe two minutes and then she gives up and goes to another bike. How long is an acceptable length of time to try and stand up for yourself? How much liquid must a person's tears produce to be genuine? Please police this woman's behavior Tymore while a group of men physically intimidate her and demand she get off a bike that was available when she sat on it.

Sorry as a currently pregnant white lady who has rented bikes I find this is the least likely scenario. And I actually thought the chipotle couple was mostly in the right.

Here’s my take:
The guys were checking out probably the last bikes. They were dawdling, maybe checking eachothers’ phones or whatever, but clearly standing next to the bikes. She tries to swoop in by sitting on one because apparently she is in a big hurry. Why would anyone sit on a bike before you swipe? It’s almost impossible to swipe from sitting on the bike. She’s only doing that to try to take it from someone else and get them to give it up.

They tell her no way we were here first these are ours, and they swipe to confirm it. She thinks she can make a fuss and scare them off. why would anyone yell help when no one is restraining you and you literally have nothing to lose since you haven’t swiped the bike out yet? what do you need help with?

then poor kid in the right says let’s just give this crazy lady my bike since I haven’t swiped it yet. His friends are saying no that’s not fair, but she of course does it anyway, and suddenly now that she has a (different) bike she’s no longer scared and crying or needing “help.”

She tried to take advantage of these kids and got caught. She knew exactly what she was doing and deserves to lose credibility. If she had acted this way to a group of nuns everyone would be calling her out and assuming she was in the wrong. She tried to weaponize her pregnancy, gender, and their race and I find that personally offensive as a pregnant lady who would never act this way.

What do you mean by the bolded?

NO one straddles a parked bike and scans it. You walk up, scan it, pull it back, the mount and ride. There’s no way she was there first.

Not on the new bikes. The new bikes, the scan is right in the middle of the handlebars. It's actually easiest to straddle the bike, then get your phone out, then scan. Especially if you have a bag like she does -- you might even take the bag off and put it in the basket before getting out your phone, because it will be easier to scan once your bag is off your shoulder.

On the older bikes, or if you are scanning with one of the old cards (where the scanner is on the side and kind of under the handlebars), I'd agree with you. But we can see it's a newer bike and not only that, he is holding his palm over the scanner on the middle of the handlebars specifically to prevent her form scanning it. That was my first clue that something was amiss with the way the video was being described. If he'd already rented the bike, there would be no reason for him to do this. Then when I saw/heard the bike unlock in the middle of the video, it all kind of fell together -- she's on the bike, getting ready to scan, he comes over and grabs the bike and covers the scanner so she can't, then he scans the bike and says "oh it's my bike now."

She didn't steal anything. His behavior is really inappropriate/aggressive.

This seems the most plausible, and its what I see daily in terms of how people get themselves ready and reserve. I’m close to two Citi Bike stations.

Fake crying with fake shaking makes her look like a liar. It wasn’t real crying.

This guy is pressing into her with her body, grabbing the bike she's on, preventing her from scanning it.

But the conversation is around whether or not her crying is convincing enough.

That woman is screaming, fake crying, snatching his phone and pushing her body into his. I’m scared for him.

If anything it's reverse racism and black people should just all expect to be shot if they ever make a white person uncomfortable.

Because really, that's the point right? She was uncomfortable, felt justified and obviously the kids were wrong.

They are lucky they weren't killed, to be honest. I would have expected a good guy with a gun to end this whole discussion, FWIW.

But no, it's not racist. It's America.

Well I will grant you this. If the facts were different it would be completely different facts.

This thread is so off the rails.

Read a mainstream news source:

None of this tracks with the garbage in this thread. Why are some of you SO invested in proving this woman innocent? Oh wait, I know the answer to that.

Why are they refusing to let her scan the bike she’s on? Explain.

Thank you for providing another source of people calling her a thief when it’s very obvious she was attempting to rent the bike and the man was blocking her access to the QR code.

It’s true. Media has completely flubbed this story.

No one shot these kids.

This woman "feels uncomfortable" because she's on a bike trying to rent it, and someone walks up and grabs the bike, physically tries to shove her off of it with his body, and won't allow her to scan the bike with her phone and instead scans it himself.

It's not like she's uncomfortable because she saw a black man on the street and started crying. She's uncomfortable because she's being forced off a bike while the guy's friends surround her, laugh and yell at her, and one of them records her on his phone.

I am very, very against the police violence against black people we see all the time. I am very against people who call the cops on black people for existing, socializing, or doing normal things, in order to weaponize their whiteness to try and endanger black people. Those things are vile.

This woman was trying to rent a bike and some kids forced her off the bike and took it from her. She is not vile. She did nothing wrong.

That article is horrendous. At one point they interview two people who live in the woman's building and one says "It's clearly like a Karen, a Central Park Karen" and the other one who knows the woman in the video says he believes the incident is being blown out of proportion. Neither of these people were present when the incident happened and it's not even clear if they've viewed the video.

That's not reporting.

No he is not. He is trying to hold onto the bike. She is pressing into HIM.

because she was on it and trying to rent it while being physically blocked. The lady just worked a shift, FFS let her go home. Young healthy kids can walk or get a different bike.
