David Trone for senate

I'm afraid that Larry Hogan will win now. Alsobrooks is not a particularly impressive candidate. Hogan was well-liked as governor. We even voted for him the second time, but would not want him in the Senate to give the GOP control.

Trone is actually a smart person. I could vote for him.

Alsobrooks is good as a county executive but doesn't have the intellectual heft I'd like to see in a Senator. Of course that isn't necessarily a criterion for election, just look at some of the characters who already do hold Senate seats (looking at you, Ron Johnson, Josh Hawley)

Lol Hawley attend Yale and Stanford. You don’t think he has “intellectual heft”?

Hogan FSU no advanced degree
Alsobrooks Duke plus a degree in law

In the race for governor, which happens in non-presidential years, Hogan beat a bad candidate, twice.

Now he's running for senator, in a presidential year, against a good candidate.

He also ran when Republicans were just another party that wanted to do the same thing a different way.

Now they are insane.

She has to really REALLY run up the score in Baltimore and PG and have a solid showing in Montgomery County in order to overcome getting annihilated in northern, western and southern Maryland. I really hope she can pull it off! There’s a lot riding on this.

People vote, not land. Guess where the majority of the people in Maryland live.

Again, I hope Alsobrooks can pull it off. I really do. I voted for Trone but I will definitely vote for Alsobrooks in November. However, there are still a lot of rural and semi-rural areas in Maryland and if they are ALL giving Hogan 95% of their vote, that’s tough to overcome.

She’s beating Trone in all of the high population areas but her vote leads in Baltimore City, County, MC, etc are all cancelled out by her losses in all of the smaller areas. So her net margin of victory is only PG County. Run that again when Hogan is even more popular in all of those nooks and crannies and will be more competitive in Howard, AA, and Baltimore Counties.

Currently she's beating Trone statewide with 226,916 to 178,123 (48,793 votes).

Of which Prince George's County is 56,848 to 20,427 (36,421 votes).

So, no. Your math is wrong.

Updated numbers:

Alsobrooks is beating Trone statewide with 243,637 to 188,891 (54,746 votes).

Of which Prince George's County is 61,457 to 21,897 (39,560 votes).

So the PP's assertion last night that "her net margin of victory is only PG County" is just plain wrong.

There is clearly more enthusiasm for Alsobrooks than you realize given the magnitude of her victory. She’s a good candidate and the favorite to win but nothing’s for sure of course.

In a presidential year with abortion on the ballot, Alsobrooks *should* win this.

I sure hope so. And actually I feel a lot better about it this morning than I did yesterday.

Trone has a veneer of inauthenticity that I don't think comes across well. I think Alsobrooks will do better in the general.

If Alsobrooks had a 12 point lead over Trone, I don't think we have any evidence that he'd be more electable against Hogan. She clearly has more enthusiasm behind her. I'm optimistic that MD voters will figure out the difference between governor and senator.

As I said to a friend the other day, I don’t see Trone as having a soul-of-Maryland vibe. It’s all about the big money with him.

Same- I kinda got a pit in my stomach last night but there’s a lot different this year compared to when Hogan was running for governor. I think democrats will get in line for this one, it’s much different crossing over for a senate election.

Hogan adds a vote to the GOP in the senate which means abortion bans and crappy judges.
