Apparently it’s totally fine. It’s just someone dressed in an outlandish costume entertaining the kids! I say let’s do it. |
I am one of the PPs who thinks that drag queens are misogynist entertainment rooted in deep sexism, and my concern with DQSH is using sexism and misogyny for entertainment across the board. I am not going to pick apart whether one outfit is sexualized or not. That having been said, I’m not protesting them. But that does not mean I support them. Why should I be enthused about public funds being used to promote harmful bigotry towards women? |

Also read. It might be helpful to anyone legitimately asking questions and not just killing time playing devils advocate between work emails |
omg she is fabulous, that's amazing |
King! Mine lets our daughter paint his toenails. I melt. |
| It's a bunch of people volunteering their time to read to kids. If hell's angels wants to do a biker hang story hour, my kid and I will be there for that too. |
And what would you say to an actual older woman who showed up to kids story hour dressed like that, with that hair and makeup? Still just fine? You’d happily hand your kids to her? |
Seriously do people not have husbands who won’t paint their nails and do dress up? Sad. |
I'm one of the PPs who doesn't love drag but don't see where you're going with this. I would also think an older lady dressed like this would look awesome. |
I mean. My choir teacher dressed and wore makeup kind of like that as a kid. Everyone thought she was wonderful and as far as I know she was a cis woman. |
Our librarian is late 50s with purple hair. So a bit younger, but I’d not be even remotely surprised if she added a wig and costuming. She’s committed to our kids. Really animated. It’s playful. I’d be delighted. Kids love big and showy as much as comfy. |
I’d love a cruella Deville book reading. |

That would be so great! Most of the bikers I know are great with kids. |
I have no dog in this fight and wouldn't necessarily not take my kid to a DGSH. But can we please stop with calling people homophobes and transphobes when they disagree with you and/or have a different view or comfort level. I certainly don't think everything in the gay or trans community is sexualized, but have you been to a drag show? I have many times. It was a great time and would go again, but to say it is not sexualized is just stupid. Not saying that a kid story hour would be, but I can hear other's opinions without assuming the worst about them. |
