Drag Queen Story Hours

Can parents who take their children to these events explain the appeal. What am I missing? Never had these when I was a kid or when raising my own children.

Just something else to do. Always looking for new things to do on the weekends - mainly for me because I think my kid would be fine going to the same park forever, but I need some new kid-friendly experiences mixed in.

drag queens are great performers, and that’s what makes a great story hour. A booming voice, glitter, funny voices. They’re perfect for story hour. I go to story hours all the time where the reader is just phoning it in or isn’t a natural performer and it sucks.

I would also go to Retired Theater Kids Story Hour. I think they should make that a thing. At a minimum I wish the libraries would try harder to hook up with community theater groups more often.

They're fun?

Their kids like to hear stories?

Not sure I see the fun of having to escort my kid through a parasol patrol hiding protesters and a police presence. I can find many other things to do with my kid on a weekend. Like to go a bookstore and read to them myself.

They’re fun. That’s it. There’s nothing sexual about them

Would you be ok if your child asked your husband to dress up and put make up next time they want a bed time story. I’m sorry but it is weird.

When I see them we don't go to the library that day. Drag belongs in bars.

It’s someone well trained in stage performance reading stories to kids in a way that is very engaging. They also wear costumes that are whimsical and ostentatious which kids also find fun and silly. No different than a magician or clown show or a Disney parade—it’s a kid-friendly performance in costume.

Please stop with your utter stupidity. I’m embarrassed for you.

Good for you. I would totally take my kids.

I teach my children that some people are idiots and stupid.

See fixed it for you.

They’re more engaging performers than I am. So is the librarian who does story time at my local library.

I’d take my kid to either, or both, to stimulate a love of reading!

If you say so. Do you ever ask yourself why these men want to be around young children. If they were not dressed up in these outfits would you still take your kids to see a random man read stories. For some reason the customers and make up somehow make it acceptable.
