ECNL moving to school year not calendar

It is all about stats and money…but if you have kids playing so they can be on the same team as their classmates I doubt their commitment to soccer.
Hopefully we have more mls teams that make academies for both girls and boys and we can play year around and do away with people trying to make an extra dollar trying to keep non talented kiddos in the game an extra season or two. |

What did they do with the seniors in the past with kids that were held back, or private school kids with July and June birthdays? |

The participation rate reflects concerns with young kids, not kids already dedicated and into it. While I agree there should be a track for talented kids with levels all the way up to "going-to-go pro" - there should also be something above Rec for kids who are competitive and enjoy the sport but won't be moving on past high school. |

The article was written. By someone who very obviously wants SY to happen. MLSN has biobanding which means they can already do SY. |

That is why I am not scared.
The soccer board will have another issue to address. What happens when they are seniors and when they are trapped? The new trapped players will be people that are held back and private schools that have a cutoff of June 1st |

There is no GY trapped players. They would be forced to play up either 1 grade or 2 grades with BY depending on when they were born. (To play club soccer ECNL GA etc). In HS soccer or a Private School league they would be able to "play down" with their grade. So what would happen is they can choose to play club soccer "up" 1 or 2 years in club. Or at their grade in HS soccer. Where they would have an advantage because they're a year older. Cheaters won't choose to play up when playing down is an option. |

Once again why are school year parents so scared of Grad Year. It won’t matter, your kid isn’t good enough whatever the change is. They won’t just randomly be better because of the age change. They will be competing against those “older” kids at some point. Quit crying |

There has been no decision yet. Maybe ECNL decides to go graduation year for high school for recruiting purposes. Until a decision is made no need to worry. |
